This is an excerpt from the report in the link you see below:

The pastor [Rev. Jim Garrett] often worked 80-hour weeks, said Dr. Rush Pierce, who was chairman of the Polk Street administrative board that *hired* Garrett.

A "hired" preacher! Yes, they're nothing more than hired employees. Going about things that way leaves the congregation in charge, and it can get rid of anyone who won't tickle their ears to suit their fancy. The churches "hire" a preacher much like school teachers are hired and paid a salary, or a physician is paid for his services. Having been "hired" means that if his pay were to be cut off for some reason then he'd undoubtedly go find a different type of job. Preaching has to *pay* or otherwise they're not really interested in doing it.--Schizm.

Hey man, "Deacon Blues" and the rest of the Scotch drinking theological circle need to work somewhere. If they don't entertain, they get the boot. Just a gig, so what's the problem. People pay for lap dancers, shrinks, magicians, horoscope readers, and preachers. It's all cool, just another "brick in the wall."
