As most of you know our oldest son Jake, loves to play high school football,,,,,,thank goodness it is over in my opinion...lol. Jake complained of a " jammed" thumb from the very first football game, in practice someone feel on it and we think that is when he tore a ligament in the thumb joint area. I feel so bad because we all thought , coaches and even he, thought it was just a jammed thumb that he kept hurting over and over, not knowing it was as serious,,,,,,and he played the whole season with it like that.

We just came from the forth doctor today and he is seeing a hand surgeon on Monday to discuss what is to be done, MRI etc. So far the four doctors we have seen , ortho docs say he will need surgery to repair the lose tendon or ligament.

I am very worried about him having to go thru surgery and what effect it will have on his life , in the future as well as now. He is a promising artist , and the torn ligament is in his right hand, so I worried.

Has anyone heard of this kind of injury or any advice to give me , things to think about before we see the specialist on Monday?

I sure appreciate it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,love and hugs to you all.

Now that football is over, high school and peewee, I might be able to catch back up with everyone............., Dede

I don't know much about torn ligaments and such but I did want to wish your son a speedy recovery. My son has his sights on playing for the Illini, maybe he'll end up seeing your son if he goes to LSU.

    Sorry Dede,

I haven't had any expierience with that type of surgery but my son had a player step on his hand during football play a couple years ago. And he had to have a screw put in his. not the same kind of surgery I know. The young'uns heal fast and will probably mean therapy after ward. He still has the screw which can be removed he just isn't crazy about the re-opening the skin idea to back that screw out!

They can do lots of things, medically that amaze us and you are doing the right things. So hugs to you guys. hope you get the info you need.
