    G'day all,

Glad to know you've taken the time to see abouut what we have in mind this weekend!

I was just wondering about those "House-to-House" Records - those S8's!!! Of course, we're thinking back to before the Privacy/Data Prrotection Act!!

What were you like at writing them out? Kept detailed notes? Couldn't be bothered? Well, how about you? We'd love to know!

So, here it is, this weekend's poll question......(got a niice drink handy??....good!).........

What did you do with the S-8s?

    1. Not much

    2. Sometimes, like when I had to work with the C.O.

    3. I used to write so much it took up most of my witnessing time!

    4. Passed them around my group to get rid of them!

    5. Kept them for 7 years! (Statute of Limitations??)

    6. Entered them on my RV schedule. (I was zealous!)

    7. Handed them to the elders to check if they were filled out correctly.

    8. Saved them in a monthly file so's I could do my Report for the month!

    9. Put them in the waste basket.

    10. Used a notebook instead.

    11. Never used them.

    12. Other (please detail)

Now that might take you back a bit, eh? How are you at reminiscing? Tell us!

    and don't forget.......

    Enjoy!

    Cheers, Ozzie

Wohooo.........I'm the first one to post on Ozzie's weekly poll. Now that's a first for me

Let's see....I'll choose #12: Been out so long I forgot what the S-8's looked like (didn't even realize they had a form number!).

I do remember having a really cool 3 ring binder type book to keep them in - but I wasn't really successful in service, so while I had all the cool tools I didn't use them much. Gee - if only I had my PDA back then, I could have recorded all kinds of useful stats like their birthday, christmas gift ideas, ......(opps......never mind)

    Now there's a thought...use a PDA in field service!!

In our hall we all used just regular note paper. Then the CO came and from the talk mentioned that the society provided the House-to-house records and we should use them as a valuable tool in the ministry. C'mon. It's a piece of paper with stuff printed on it like everything else they peddle, not a tool.

Can I comment even if I've never seen one, or heard of them?

But am familiar with these types of "tools"

Tools are BIG business in multi-level marketing schemes such as Amway in particular and Anyone else versed in the self use theories of pyamids.

Sorry, that term just hit a nerve. You should see all the "tools" in the attic. That would be a # 5 x 2 !

Gosh! It's been so long. I left in 1966. I don't remember S-8 forms, but we did keep some kind of record because I remember putting down the not at homes and other info which I can't even recall right now.

When I was a regular pioneer, I used them carefully. Had to know where the RVs were so I could waste time with the rest. After I stopped, these forms seemed to always disappear. I would give people NH ones and they never returned them. The efficiency of the average JW is minimal.

I wasn't like some that kept track of the NIs (not interested). Note other abbreviations used on the form.

    CA--Call Again

    B--Busy

NH--Not home (probably HBH--home but hiding)

    W--Woman

    M--Man

    D--Dog (just kidding)

    G--Gun (just kidding)

Write It All Down: While a conversation with an interested person is still fresh in your mind, take a moment to write down all the pertinent information about the call. Note the person?s name and how you will recognize him. Put down his address, but do not guess at it?check to be sure that what you write is correct. Note the subject you talked about, any scriptures that you read, and what literature was placed.
If you left the person with a question to be answered on the next call, write it down. Did you learn something about the person, his family, or his religion? If so, make a notation of this. Then the next time you call, your making mention of it will demonstrate your personal interest in the individual. Finally, include the day and time that you made the initial call and when you said you would return. By making good notes, you will have clear reminders and will be less likely to forget your promise to return.?1 Tim. 1:12.
Once your record is complete, put it with the rest of your field service equipment?book bag, Bible, Reasoning book, and literature?so that it will always be handy. It is best to record not-at-homes on house-to-house records that are separate from those that you use to make note of your return visits. Of course, regardless of the work you put into keeping track of return visits, the important thing is to make sure that you go back!

A non-JW salesman hubby visiting the KH during this part said it was just like the cards he kept on his customers....that the service meeting was just like a sales meeting. His JW wife frowned at him.

I wrote down if they were at home. What we discussed. What I placed and whether or not I should try calling again. Really, I preferred informal witnessing to door to door.
