Too often I am listening to something that I chose, so when a site comes on with their own music or talking, I find it annoying.

Better than music is music videos. There is a site that gives you the code to embed them on your site. They even have Dave Chappelle and his skit from "I'm Rick James" that is the funnies ever. The site is: http://www.grumby.com/videos.html#A

If 16 out of 17 posters here hate it or at least prefer it not be there, why do some many people use it?

Because people confuse <blink>"annoying"</blink> with <red>"entertaining"!</red>

1. I usually hate it. I prefer if it doesn't come on automatically. If you want to provide music, have a button that can be clicked to turn it on.
