THERE IS ONLY ONE SIN

  OSCAR WILDE said, "There is no sin except stupidity".

  However, I heard a better one the other day that got me thinking.

  I wish I could remember who said it.

  It went something like this. There is only one sin and that is "theft".

  All else is a variation.

  1.If you murder a man you steal all he has and all he is ever going to have.

  2.When you lie you steal another person's right to hear and know the truth.

  3.When you fail to honor parents or God you steal from them the respect due them for giving you life and for enabling you to flourish.

  You get the idea.

  Would you agree that there is only one sin: theft?

  If not, how would you argue against that view?

  Interesting idea. I guess that many "wrongdoings" are related to theft.

  As far as sinning, I don't believe in "sin" as such, but I can see what you mean....something that harms another person.

  Minimus; you might not want to "argue" about it, but maybe others would be interested in such a thought provoking discussion.

  I don't see a problem. I have been thinking on this subject for a few minutes and can't think of any arguments that go against it. I'll think about it some mo'.

  That's not exactly a new idea. Cf. the OT version of adultery as theft (of another man's wife, regarded as his property, as the nice list of the tenth commandment shows: "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.)

  But what if property is theft (Proud'hon)?
