Better to let people carry on as usual until the end.

I couldn't agree more on that one . I think alot of people would show up as marauding despots knowing the end was imminent .

For all we know, it's already been decided and there's one on the way.

    We'll meet again
    Don't know where
    Don't know when
    ...

Yes, we wouldn't know, would we? The govt/space network is tight enough that it could contain that info. If some did leak out, it could be very easily discredited by them. Well, i'm not going to worry about it. Anyway, it is quite possible that tech/militaristic advancements will allow the powers that be to handle this potential problem fairly soon. Despite all their chicanery, they don't want to have civilisation destroyed, either. Humankind is their ticket to a good life of wealth and power. Even though the farmer takes their eggs and eats a few of them, protects his chickens as best he can from the fox.

Satanus --- what exactly do you think could be done even with the knowlege that an asteroid in headed to the earth ? The only thing that might be done is that all the rich people can evacuate to some unlikely spot for a collision and then move back in when things look better. I was thinking myself that the marauding bandits would be religious zealots who thought God was going to destroy the earth because of the evil powers that control everything on earth .Then try to remove them to appease the Gods ...... *L* I wish I could write some sci-fi novel about stuff like that .

That would probably happen in any case. There have been a few sf books written on that scenario. I think dean ings books are based on that.

With current technology there is little to nothing that could be done to prevent an impact.

I don't know if every single person would die. Life finds a way, and it probably would in this scenario, although it would probably take 10,000 years for civilization to crawl back to where we are now.

Kent Brockman: "Hordes of panicky people seem to be evacuating the town for some unknown reason. Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?"

    Professor: "Yes I would, Kent."

crap !!!!!!!! never read any dean ing before . Maybe it's time too . It's hard to be original when writing things people are always stealing each others ideas and putting new twists on it . I think the biggest problem with writing is the creating of interesting charactors that people can relate too and become emotionally involved with . Back to the drawing board lol ..........
