    I don't think "religious" is the word I would use to describe it...more self defined spirituality. But that is just take on it.

    With a few tweaks, you can see how the 12 steps apply to persons who abused, or were abused by, religion.

    1. We admitted we were powerless over [the religion]--that our lives had become unmanageable.

    Everyone on this board, and many people still in the JW religion, realize that the organization controlled them (or attempted to). We weren't in control of our religious beliefs, which were imposed on us and strictly enforced. Our lives became unmanageable from the standpoint of loss of personal freedom. Our conscience was no longer our own. We weren't free to decide what jobs, education, associations, hobbies, entertainment, and on and on, we would choose for ourselves, to use just one example. You can surely think of more.

    Go ahead and play with the other 11, you'll see how well it all fits.
