    Hi friends.

Do you know why the WT congregations must have their weekend meetings preferably on Sunday? There's a letter from the branch office in Chile dated on 01-march-2002, page 3, point N° 7 where we can find the reasons they have to prefer sunday for the meetings and not saturday, of course all depends on the quantity of congregations sharing the same KH. They say that as the CO informs, when the congregation has the meeting on sunday there´s better averages on the number of people at the KH and the time spended on the field service grow up. They say: "apparently, to have the meeting on saturday gives the brothers the sensation that the sunday is a "free" day, a day for doing a lot of things less important than the theocratic activities."

For the WT having a day for you, for spending it in your owns activities, for resting or being with your family is almost a sin. If you think in the possibility to attend to yourself.... you will have to run and look for the help of the elders......LOL!!

PS: I hope you understand my english.

In the 70s at the time of the oil crisis it was not allowed to drive a car in Germany on a Sunday. Meetings were then preponed to Saturdays. After the oil crisis was over the Society told all congregations to go back to Sundays.

    Thanks for the background information.

    Hey, Chileno!

Good question! Don't have the slightest idea why Sunday. I skip many a Sunday meeting because I need all the peace and quiet I can get.

Totally agreed - a day off a week and who knows what they might do, see, read, or whom they may visit. There is also an aside, the distance they wish to create from Adventism and Saturday worship, or being associated with practicing Jews. If they hand out tracts near a church n Sunday, they can have precious differentiation.

I do know of some congregatiosn that actually meet on Saturdays, that's mainly because the hall is full on Sundays. There were 6 congregations sharing one hall, not even hours in the day for a Sunday meeting.

The obvious reason is that Sunday is paaagan! They worship the Sun God!

when I lived in Venezuela our meetings were Saturday afternoon cause there were 7 congregations sharing the same hall. I also remember that all meetings were usually suspended between December 17 and January 6th. something about the neighborhood not being safe during those dates **cough bull***t** Venezuelans love Christmas a bit too much.....

Strange - we have just had a Local Needs on this and The CO mentioned at an elders and servants meeting 5 years ago - on both occasions he brought out the 1975 yearbook about all the persecution the brothers endured for Sunday Worship and particularly Sunday Field Ministry. Sunday is viewed as the Saabbath and as far as I know in all congregations worldwide the WTBTS prefers Sunday Meetings for PT and Watchtower if at all possible.

Except that the World Wide Church of God and the Seventh Day Adventists have definitively proven that the paaaagan Christendom's Churches switched days in order to worship the Sun God. True Christians worship on Saturdays.
