I disagree... Ultimately the WBTS are responsible for those persons they decide to appoint to the position of Elder. If these people do not follow the WBTS directives then they could 'fire' the 'rogue' Elders if they wanted to.

That would still be after the fact. My point was, there is not a whole lot you can do to stop people breaking the rules AHEAD OF TIME. You can punish them afterwards and have the threat of punishment, but that is about it. In addition, how do you know that elders who disregard this policy are NOT removed or "fired?"

Nothing that happens in a local congregation is hidden from the WBTS.
Do you have anything to support this statement. It seems rather far fetched to me. The fact that they have to fill out "a lot of forms" certainly doesn't support it.

at this point there is no reason to believe JWs have more child abusers than any other group. But there is absolutely no reason to believe they have less either

Not to begin with, but they end up with more because "to avoid bringing reproach on Jehovahs name" they cover it up, so these guys rarely go to jail and keep up molesting.

There are people who say the 143 number is ridiculous`. I know of one molester that was uo to atleast 50 by the time he was in his mid-twenties. I know of another wh ADMITTED to at least 50. But these people are devious about their condition by nature, and lie on the low side about their numbers because part of their pathology is to see nothing wrong with what they do, often saying that their tiny victims seduced THEM!!!.

SHE TOLD THE ELDERS ABOUT THE ELDER WHO MOLESTED HER AND THERE WERE 4 OTHER VICTIMS WHO ALSO TOLD THE SAME ELDERS ABOUT HIS MOLESTING THEM.

That is terrible and I am sorry. And if serving as an elder I was told by the WTBTS to drop something like this I would have called the police myself.

In this case everyone of them is guilty to high heaven

    again sorry

Confusedjw, you sadly, are the exception, rather than the rule. Go to silentlambs.org and read the experiences page.

Sorry to reply a little late in the thread.

It was asked how the conclusion was reached that a disproportionately large number of JW's are involved in child molestation. When I was in a group dealing with this 12 years ago, the psychologist pulled me aside after one of the group meetings and wondered what religion my abusers had been. Something I said had tipped her off. She told me the same thing. She had been involved in this therapy for years and over half her cases were JW related. It should be mentioned also that I live in an area with a very small percentage of JW population. So maybe there's something to it.

I've stated before also, one of my molesters has admitted in court and before a committee his actions and was even caught in a lie about it's frequency 8 years after the first JC. You guessed. No consequences....it just opened the door for me to leave.

Wow. The experiences of everyone posting on this topic alone is a staggering testimony to the extent of the problem. I'm shocked. From what I can see it seems these situations could be bungled by the elders simply because of the mystical perception of the org. The org is divine. Live for the org, die for the org. Fear the org. Death to the one to cause reproach on the org. I could be off but I'm hard-pressed to figure how elders could look the other way in these cases unless there was an intense mind-controlling fear motivation behind it.

Do you hear about other people's religious beliefs when they make the news? Generally no.

Actually, in my community a person was convicted of child molestation. He had been an elder of a local Baptist church 8 years prior to the conviction. There was no connection to any church function or activity. There were no allegations or evidence that suggested the church knew anything about it. Yet every headline in the local paper over the developing story connected him to this church. I suppose they figured it would sell more papers.
