Hello! Detox Joe,JC did NOT return to power in 1914.In ca 1985 at the primary WT lesson in Campton NH.I read these words from smoking Joe,""I 've made an ass of myself"".

He was lamenting the 1925 "millions now living will never die" sales pitch.

"Now.... Millions now dying will never live"

At the 1919 Cedar Point, Ohio, U.S.A, convention of the Bible Students (known today as Jehovah's Witnesses), 50-year-old

J.F. Rutherford, who was then overseeing the work, gladly volunteered as a bellhop, carrying luggage and escorting conventioners

to their rooms. On the last day of the convention, he electrified the audience of 7,000 with the words: "You are an ambassaor

of the King of kings and Lord of lords, announcing to the people...the glorious Kingdom of our Lord." While Brother Rutherford

was a man of strong convictions, known for speaking out forcefully and without compromise for what he believed to be the

truth, he was also genuinely humble before God, often reflecting that in his prayers at morning worship in Bethel.

OK, regarding the bellhop thing, J.F. was obviously drunk off his ass. Regarding his electrifying words and speaking out forcefully, he was drunk off his ass. Regarding the ever-so-humble morning prayers, he was hungover. Every alcoholic is humble in the morning, some even get religious. I'm sure it was God's holy spirit that moved him to smuggle booze in from the Canadian branch during Prohibition. Oh, was that not in the Watchtower?

Anyone wanting to know what type of man Rutherford really was should read the thread posted by Farkel at

No doubt he did this. But consider the yearhe did this: 1919. Rutherford had stolen leadership of the Bible Student's by going against the very Will and Last Testament of Russell just the year before. As a result, he lost 75% of the Bible Students membership. He HAD to be nice. It was expedient.

But he wasn't "humble." He was just playing a role to get what he wanted, and he eventually got what he wanted.

I'm not doubting this, but can you reference this? I may be able to use that information.

    Thanks

OMG... you all missed the most important part of that quote!!!

known for speaking out forcefully and without compromise for what he believed to be the truth

Thats right folks.... they do not say that he HAD truth... only that he BELIEVED that he had truth!

They tip-toed around the fact that a JW would be disfellowhipped and shunned for BELIEVING and TEACHING what Rutherford believed and taught!
