This is a wonderful bit of video:

Go into "alphabetical". Click on "Star spangled blunder".

I felt like applauding the singer.

Yeah, but the melody of God Save the Queen sounds suspiciously like America The Beautiful.

When I was a little kid (not raised JW), I used to think that "the dawn's early light" was "the dawnserly light," and "the rocket's red glare" was "the robin's red breast." That's how I sang it!

The Star-Spangled Banner does nothing for me, really. I was banned from singing it, but I somehow was allowed to sing the State Song, which I guess didn't seem so bad since it is in a different language. And so the anthem that really tugs the heartstrings, that really makes me feel patriotic (well, for Hawaii at least), is this song:

Hawai`i Pono`i Written by King David Kalakaua
Music by Prof. Henry Berger, the Royal Bandmaster

Hawaii ponoi Nana i kou, moi
    Kalani Alii, ke Alii.
    Makua lani e Kamehameha e
Na kaua e pale Me ka i he.

    (translation)

Hawaii's own true sons, be loyal to your chief
Your country's liege and lord, the Alii. 1
Father above us all, Kamehameha, 2
Who guarded in the war with his ihe, 3

    1. Alii (ah-lee-ee) sovereign
    2. Kamehameha (Kah-may'-ha-may'-ha) king who first unified the islands.
    3. Ihe (ee-hay) spear

Almost brings a tear to my eye to sing it.
