We're thinking of holidaying there at the end of July.

    Anybody here ever visited Crete?

    Got any advice for us?

"One of them, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." Titus 1:12

Sorry, that's all I remember about the place. Enjoy your trip.

Crete is gorgeous in spring. Chania is by far the nicest town there, from what I saw. If you're fit you can take the bus from Chania to the top of the Samaria gorge and walk down to the bottom and take a ferry back. It was really fun. That was 9 years ago so maybe it's all changed, but I just loved it.

Crete is a very large Greek Island well worth visiting I would recomend Hania town in Crete, another great Greek Island is Lefkada in the Ionion.

Crete is lovely as is Corfu, Zante and Rhodes........but Englishman, have you ever tried Kefallonia? (Cephallonia) truly the most beautiful of them all!

    Mike,

I have to agree with Scooby, Kefalonia Island is a wonderful little place, very unspoiled and despite its size still has lonely beaches. At the North of the Island are tidal sea caves that sound as if they are whispering when the tide begins to come in - don't get stuck in them though!

Why not give Malta a whirl? Malta is a beautiful place, as perfect a blend of Eastern and Western culture as you will find, with some stunning scenery and excellent local food ( heavily fish and pasta oriented ). I highly recommend the Jerma Palace Hotel at Marsascala, for a beach hotel or the Corinthian, which is Mid Island and *very* classy. The best goats cheese in the world imho is made on Gozo, Malta's smaller Island mate. It is a very short boat trip to Sicily from Malta.

    Best regards - HS

"I agree with Scooby" Bloody 'ell HS that must have hurt!! Where'd you visit in Keffalonia? Fantastic isn't it......can't wait to get back there. Did you get to go to Lassi.....? probably the most commercialised place on the island (Keffalonian standards!) but has a fantastic Taverna called Zorba's. ....and yes after half a bottle of Ouzo I can move just as well as the Greeks doing the Zorba dance....honest.
