I think the people want government involved when it suits their fancy but most of us don't want to be told what to do, how to think, etc.

I agree with that, which then leads me to conclude that there is not one type of government anywhere that will adequately meet everyone's needs.

"The people" really do not run the govt.

I believe this is the best place to live. But, than I live here....

Free health care and good food for all would make it better.

No one should go hungry at night in this country....

Years (and years) ago, I was in the mall with my grandmother who was a dedicated Witness, and it was election time. Some local TV Newscast was there asking people at random who they were going to vote for. They made the mistake of asking my grandmother who said without hesitation that she was "voting for Jehovah" and was "waiting for His Kingdom". I was about 13 at the time and almost died from embarassment. The Newscaster was speechless for a moment and then quickly moved on. Dear ol' grandma thought she had given a great witness for God's Kingdom.

"Voting for Jehovah" was one of those classic JW comments when people asked us who we voted for......What narrow minded people we were!

I just wanna know, is it against federal law to vote for a person who's not a native born US citizen? At least that's what I heard from my civics teacher in high school. And as for the government that I would want? You'll be suprised to hear this from me, but I would rather socialism, but not large scale like how the French, Germans and British, but I would rather have it in small scale communities where people depend on one another to survive, and not these megacommunities that we live in during our day and age. But since we live in an age of the nation and perhaps the age of the national coalition, I prefer a decentralized confederated government with a strong and constitutionally checked and balanced parliment (To check and balance a system where 2 major parties can dominate and disservice the people), court system, electorate, economic system, president, vice president, senate and congress. I would have an electoral college for elections to check any politician raiding cities for votes while ignoring the suburbs and rual areas, but eliminate the winner take all law.

    Hey Min, how are you.

Me? America, right or wrong. ( forgive me, international posters)

I've lived in Italy and Europe and as much as I love it over there( the history; the culture;the art); I am still a flag waving American to the core. And a New Yorker to boot!

The world is a free place thanks to 6000 years of recorded history and trial and error of governments. It took the Watchtower Society just about 100 years to "undue" the freedom of choice and pursuit of happiness that the Constitution of the United States allows its citizens, and is described as "an inalienable right"

The Watchtower Society would have you believe that you have no rights.

I don't know that I'd call it a "government" per se....I think I'd rather label it as a "state of being"...........looking at it spiritually......I guess I'd say whatever brings the least harm and most benefit to "all peoples". And, if we personally , i.e. towards ourselves, as the Christ said "do unto others as you would do towards yourself" have practiced this and become "healed" then we can practice it towards others..................including the animals and plants, etc.........of this globe we live on. But, our "intention" must be positive......

I guess most people would say democracy but their are many types of democracy as most of us know. I think Karl Marx was right about the underlying state of the economy trumping everything else in society. Capitalism is king right now where as Socialism was more popular in the early part of the 20th century. I think it's false to think that we have unlimited opportunites here in the U.S. We may think that anyone who works hard enough can become rich and famous, but the reality is that the decks are stacked against most people.

We are socially and econmically stratified here in the U.S. People who make $200,000 or more in the U.S. only comprise roughly 1-5% of the population. People who are "middle class" make 30K to 50K a year and comprise 30-35% of pop. This brings us down to the working class in this country who only make 20k to 30K a year, yet make up 40-45% of the U.S. population. The so called working class have just enough money to pay for monthly bills but usually have no savings. After this are those who are below the poverty line who make less than 15K a year, yet comprise 20-25% of the U.S. population. What's the point? 60 to 70% of U.S. population are close to poor or very poor and are just scraping by.

Why are we ok with this a society? Marx said that society can have two different types of consciences when it comes to economics. We currently are under a false conscience which says the status quo is ok, it's ok for corporations and the few in society to reap vast fortunes while the rest of us just get by. What we need is a Revolution baby. A class revolution that says no, it's not ok for the worker to be raped and taken advantaged of. I think we will see this soon and once again see the pendulum swing over to a more socialist viewpoint instead of capitalism.

In the end, both capitalism and socialism are both imperfect and both have their negatives. I just think socialism is the lesser of the two evils. Why are we so blind here in the U.S.? Corporations say that health care costs are out of control and say that profits are being hurt. Well, what's wrong with that? Why does the corporation get all the profits, they can share, they can take a cut in profits for the sake of their employees. But hardly anyone sees it this way, every stockholder just wants more and more profits thus making the working class in this country very expendable.

I know I'm not American, but I believe it is the President who must be born American, and maybe other high offices (VP?), from what I've picked up watching elections coverage and news items.

And I know you can be Governor if you are a naturalized citizen, as Arnold Schwarzenegger (sp) is the new governor of CA, he was born in Austria.
