An interesting comment given by an older brother during the prayer yesterday.

I mentioned it on another thread that an older JDubya said that if the religion they were baptized into over fifty years ago would have been the same religion that exists today, they would NEVER have become a JDubya. Most of the reasons they said are the total 180 flip-flops on Bible doctrine that was once taught as infallible truth to the rabid promotion of the internet and JDubya.Org

Back in the mid 1980's the WTS demeaned computers and their use and even quoted scriptures to support their position.  20 years later on now look who is supporting the use of computers ?

    Good old fashion hypocrisy

This $$$  has always shaped the operation of the WTS and its distribution of its literature.

The WT/JW Org cares nothing for the older JW, they contribute little in a monetary way, and will soon be dead and forgotten.

The JW religion is a heartless Corporation looking entirely after its own interest.

"Interest" is in the singular because they only have one- Profit.

Nu-lite has always been a effective way of culling the undesirables. Which in this case is all the oldies who remember the embarrassing WT sins of days gone by.

Theses changes are the result of design - not accident. The higher-ups that make the decisions know full well that this push to embrace technology will alienate the elderly and the disadvantaged.

That"s very insightful sparrow. First they get rid of all the old literature then they get rid off all the older people who remember the old light.

I reckon it's kinda like being sent to theocratic "Siberia" or

"Keep up with Jehovah's chariot or you will end up as theocratic "roadkill!"

As already mentioned, this is a huge turnaround from previous directives. WT was okay with computers and technology for printing their litteratrash, but as far as the rank and file, computers were an unnecessary expense. Computer games, video games, and television were a waste of money. Books were all that was needed.

When they finally started weakening that people needed computers and the Internet, including kids doing homework, then they said it had to be in a public area of the house and supervised. Plenty of talks and demonstrations where good dubs talked themselves out of getting such expensive "worldly" electronics.

While the office workers in bethel had computers and internal email accounts, I don't think Ted Jaracz did. Teaching was hopelessly challenged technologically from everything I ever saw. But, Ted is dead now. If there's a hell, that's where that pompous a$$hole belongs. But I digress...

Now it sounds from my parents that it's a status thing to have those electronic devices at the Kingdumb Haul... colorful, big, and bright displays to read from, and sing from! So it's switched from a 'no-no' to a 'must have'. And all those teenage boys in possession of ipads (formerly condemned as an acronym for Internet Pornography Access Device). And who am I kidding? It was lots of "old boys" that got their "privileges" removed for viewing porn. And now it's easier than ever! Very "handy" for "brothers" to "prepare for the WT" after their wives have fallen asleep.

I agree that this move is to save money. But is it really? My parents and I don't talk about the cult much, but it comes closest when we talk about people and about their need to learn this new technology. And it's VERY frustrating for my parents and most of their "generation" at the Haul. The last time it came up, my dear mom said, "well, it's a move for the organization to save money."

Then I said, "Well it sure hasn't saved you money! You could buy a lot of books and magazines for the money that you've spent on your devices and an expensive monthly fee for an Internet connection that you don't really use." And then I changed the subject...

I refuse to pay for (and learn how to use) an electronic device.

A sister even offered to give her old one. I refused.

If the organization leaves me behind, so be it.

    Jehovah won't leave me behind.

Can members be disciplined for simply visiting sites like this one?

Naturally his comments could be taken either way. He could have meant that through visiting the society's website one could ascertain the truth; or he might have been referring to sites exposing the failures of the religion. I suspect he chose his words carefully.

The 607 B.C. date for the destruction of Jerusalem alone is so problematic for the society that if I were calling the shots, I'd come up with a serious revision. The Adventist dating system is so horrendously flawed that it would be akin to arguing that President Kennedy was actually shot in Dallas in 1970.

An 86 year old witness since the 1940s told me that they are using tablets in service and were receiving instruction on how to use them for the "Tract Campaign" last year. I asked what do you do if you don't have an iPhone or a tablet? She said, I guess you just go along and listen. It occurred to me that her day had passed and that the newest form of "phonograph" had made her faith obsolete, if not her as well.
