If this all seems petty and shallow on the WT’s part... it is.
But at this point, the WTS can’t back away (from their POV), because to do so would be tantamount to admitting they were petty and shallow to pursue the matter in the first place...
...and they’d rather gargle with broken glass.
(A useful bit of information to have in the fight against them, IMO.)
