This is sad news. I watched this show a lot as a preschooler; I don't have a lot of specific memories, but I was fascinated by his character and that it was a platform for other cartoons and things. I loved his name and his mustache; I barely remember Mr. Greenjeans or the moose with knock-knock jokes. I remember something about a doodley drawing thing, and Alfred, the Air-sick Eagle...

I think I will be most moved when Bob from Sesame Street passes away .... I love that guy.

Oh, I agree!! He is about the same age as my dad, looks like my dad, and sings a lot like my dad (my dad is a tenor, too). My dad's name is Bob, too! I was too old for Sesame Street (if you can ever be that way) when it came out, but my kid sisters used to think that it was our dad on the show, and that this was his job!

So that will be a very strange thing for me to experience.

It's a sad day. Now both Fred Rogers and Bob Keeshan are gone.

I remember watching Captain Kangaroo when I was young. He was a very comforting presence in our livingroom. After watching his show, you just got the feeling things were going to turn out all right!

His gentle humor, absent from much of today's children's TV programming, is greatly missed.

I couldn't believe it when my friend told me the Captain was dead. I always waited for those showers of pingpong balls with the excitement only a child can have. My squeals would drive my grandma up the wall. Another part of my childhood is gone, along with Fred Rogers. Why do we have so few public advocates for children?

*sigh* So sad, the loss of yet another childhood icon. I remember his hanging up the keys that instantly stopped the music, Grandfather clock and the occasional visit from his dog, "BeBe". And loved Mr. Moose and the silent Bunny Rabbit. Mr. Greenjeans was my favorite as well.

    Thanks for the memories Captain.

Oh the ping pong showers! Yes, I remember now....I can recall being 5 sitting in front of the TV eating instant oatmeal for breakfast watching the Captain and the moose.

I remember him and Mr. Greenjeans, Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Moose. I was too old when Sesame Street came out............. But Capt. Kangaroo and Romper Room were my faves.

I was raised on Captain Kangaroo, and mourn his passing.

I thought he was 76 years old when I was just a wee tot over 40 years ago. Imagine my surprise when only a couple of years ago, I found out he wore a grey wig all those years!

My favorite show as a child. Does anyone remember Dancing Bear? I loved the music he used to intersperse in the show accompanied by puppet shows and such. Many of them linger in my memory to this day. We even had a record in our house of Captain and friends singing songs like Johnny One Note and Waltzing Matilda. He was a great friend to children. He introduced us to the world around us in a wonderful way.
