  Before you get too excited, there are three considerations to keep in mind:

  2. Nuclear devices are not turnkey systems like conventional munitions. They require a full time support staff and specialized facilities which will vary depending on the weapon design.

  3. Of the nine nuclear powers, there are only three possible candidates Medvedev could have had in mind: The Russian Federation, which not only stands the most to benefit from instability in the Middle East, but does not want to see Ukraine further equipped than they already are. China, which has actually been a voice of reason and moderation in recent years. And North Korea, which is still a fledgling nuclear power itself.

  As analysts were quick to point out, Medvedev's comment is nonsensical both politically and technically.

  Sadly, we're at least ~120 years too late for that. The west has been meddling in the Mideast for more than a century, and the bad feelings run very deep. Many of the religious theocracies in the Mideast would happily do massive damage to the nations of the west if they had the resources to do so, and if they didn't realize that the retaliation would be overwhelming.

  But the situation is what it is, and a nuclear Iran is a catastrophe waiting to happen. I agree that the President shouldn't be able to authorize strikes like this, but that is another ship that has long since sailed (and, while it is theoretically possible to fix this, there is no political will to do so here). My hope is that it ends without a larger conflict forming in the short term. The Ayatollah's government made enough enemies of its neighbors that I don't think anyone will be willing to stick their necks out for Iran.

  Bottom line, the oil price has dropped over 15% in an hour. The only way for this to happen is if the Orange Pharaoh has dictated that the spigots on the Strategic Petroleum Reserve be opened W I D E.

  We will look for that in the data. But I don’t think Venezuela or Canuckia carved $6.00/b off their selling price in an hour just because the tangerine toddler bellowed his commands.

  The price of oil will swiftly rebound, but this assault on oil is just the Orange man trying to front run the Hormuz situation.
