Fear of the worldly people.

IMO, you have to feel pretty disenfranchised with the world around you to constantly fear and hate it.

The longer I lived in it, the harder it was to maintain those feelings.

I think JWs fear of ‘worldly people’ goes even further than that.

In my first congregation, I was surrounded by born-ins who were afraid of me because I was a convert who was not raised in the religion and had no family there. These people were so sheltered they were brought up in a broom closet. There was a bias against somebody not born in the religion.

However, my non-JW upbringing made it easy for me to ‘fade’ years later when I saw that the JW “spiritual paradise” was a nightmare.

This is so funny to read ...

I am married to a JW man, when we met he wasn't a practicing JW neither where his family members (not sure why they left the first time) , after been together for 10 years and 2 kids(out of wedlock) , we got married 3 years ago & a year ago him and his whole family returned to practicing JW's .

It's like I'm living in a nightmare , yet same thing happens as all the above have mentioned , the JW family & friends are so friendly & accommodating to your face but behind closed doors they are so anti Non-JW's . My son from my first marriage who is 13 was kicked out by my husband cause he might be gay #faceplant ...... and the man that used to be my equal is now my biggest rival ..... and the worst thing is the new JW friends & the so called JW family who supposedly love us , support & advice him on his actions ....... how brainwashed can these people be & how two faced can these people be , but yet they call them selves the True Religion WTF ... Yet they abide by the no divorce rules , but yet they diss us in their get together s etc . How do theses people think .... I guess they don't . And why would you want to be married to us "Worldy" people if we are so Evil .....

This WTBS teaching destroys lifes and mental health.

Also they have many times "marked" individuals in the congregation as people to keep a little distance from. Not shunned, not DFed not DAed , but 'marked'.

How in the bloody hell is a Jw to trust ANYONE? Even themselves if the person they were just talking to at the meeting is 'marked' usually heard or overheard of ,after you spoke with said 'marked' person. Then one starts to feel spiritually dirty. Possibly and often questioning there ability to walk a spiritual path approved by jeho. Then its back to study study study . Dont think, just study. Even within the cong there is major mistrust and fear.

So outside the org must be millions of times worse by jws logic.

A recipe for a psychotic break. The GB rely on this fear. It must be forever present...always.

This post had me thinking the past few days. It is certainly depressing if you are married to a jw knowing what they believe about non jw's and in particular 'opposers' such as myself.

If a bunch of jw's were together trashing us worldlies and someone calmly suggested the following scriptures what would the response be? would an active jw who suggested love and kindness be considered to border on apostasy?

    Matt 5:44 New International Version

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

    Proverbs 25:21
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.

    Luke 6:27
But to those of you who will listen, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

    Luke 6:28
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

    Romans 12:14
Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse.

It is my understanding that jw's do not pray for other people, is this still correct? By that I mean they do not pray for the welfare and health but only pray that they will join the jw's at some point. They do not pray for say accident victims or other human tragedy stories.

They also don't pray for 'authorities' or leaders. I know this because my jw laughed when I asked him years ago. "You think I should pray for the president?!!!" he had some convoluted response to my response which was the following-

I Timothy 2:1-2 - I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

I Peter 2:17 - Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.

Romans 13:1 - Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

anyone know the current thought on praying for non jw's?

caves - "...Even within the cong there is major mistrust and fear. So outside the org must be millions of times worse by JWs' logic."

I remember a loyalist/apologist telling me exactly that.

    Almost word for word.

Carla: Have you ever seen the movie : "The Green Mile" with Tom Hanks? He plays the role of a security guard servicing the death row and even running the executions. This man showed respect and even love to the convicts under his care. He filled his role, which was to provide services to these man. Judgement was the job of others. Well, many JWs try to see themselves this way and this is why they claim to love their enemies and even pray for them, believing that the final judgement will be done by Jehovah. The only problem though is that in practice, that's not really what happens. Once they know you won't share their beliefs, they will quickly assume you will be destroyed by god at armagedon and avoid you like the pest.

People. I saw an older gent in a coffee shop reading his paper. Nearby was a couple with very young baby and she was having some difficulty breast feeding. The gent got up and bought a voucher and took it to the couple, he held up his paper as a screen and the look on their faces was warming itself.

HM jw you know would do this?

My son from my first marriage who is 13 was kicked out by my husband cause he might be gay #faceplant ...

I`m sorry but I find this very disturbing ,how could you stand by and let your husband kick a 13 year old out into the street ? for whatever reason ? Your husband should have been turned over to the Child protection authorities/police for child abuse. and you should never have condoned or agreed to such an act.

You should have left with your son if your husband was that determined and let him stew in his own juice.

That just seems so wrong .

I am in the process of leaving my JW husband , it just ain't that easy when you have two other little children with this crazy JW man.

My 13 year old son is now staying with my Gay sister & her Girl friend & is happy to be with them & away from this cruel , narcissistic JW man . His Biological Dad & I agree that this is the best option as his biological dad stays in another city and my son wants to stay with my sister & doesn't want to change schools & be far away from me & my family .

The reason I will not just pack my bags and leave is cause I need to protect my other two children( 7 year old & 4 year Old) from this Cult . I also need to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I just move on . In this day & age it's very expensive to get divorced & very expensive to run a house with 3 kids as a single mom. But my main reason is I feel that I need to protect my children from this cult , from this man and me living in the same house is better than just letting him do what he wants cause I'm not around .

So I have chosen for now to just be strong and make sure all my children are safe from this cult .

And yes it's a terrible thing anybody can do to a child & everyday I need to pull myself out of bed and be strong for my children and put aside my guilt , resentment & heartbreak I feel , cause my children are my life.
