I came across some interesting information last week - according to Jewish tradition of the time a woman was pledged to be married around 12-13 years old and married around 13-14 years old. So this means that Mary was probably only 14-15 when she gave birth.
Wow - and to think.......I didn't really pull my &hit together until I was 30!
Anyways - I thought it was interesting - some trivia I didn't know before.
Young women had different lives back then. For one, a shorter lifespan. Young girls were helping clean, cook, work in the fields, look after younger siblings, as a norm. They worked alongside their mothers. By the age of 14, they could run their own household and most were married to men a bit older and then went to live in their in-laws household rather than being on their own.
I try to keep the historical cultural aspect in mind when comparing my life today as a woman to those of 100, 500, 1000, 2000 years ago.
I would say between 14 and 17.

My grandmother gave birth to my aunt at 14 and my mom at 16. She was always a good mother, but then she had her parents near them, especially when they all moved from Oklahoma together. My grandfather was always a hard worker and Mother never had to work outside the home. Since she was such a young mom, my Auntie Jo had my cousin, Mother was only 33 and now a grandmother. She then had another baby, my Auntie Claudia at age 34 and my mom had me 2 years later. So, at 36 she was a grandmother to two with a toddler of her own. Growing up was fun with built in playmates.
It was only confusing to others that we called our Grandma by the name "Mother" and then had our Mommy. (I won't mention that we called our great grandmother "Mama" .......she was in her 50's when she became a great grandma).....Times were way different, even 40 years ago!
I read she turned 15 on the 29th of December so technically she was still 14 when she gave birth.
