"Go, my people, enter your inner rooms, And shut your doors behind you.Hide yourself for a brief moment Until the wrath has passed by."(Isaiah 26:20)

One of the questions that seem to trouble the governing body of the Jehovah's Witnesses in recent year is this: What will Jehovah's Witnesses be doing during the destruction of Babylon the Great?" In previous years and even up to 2014 the idea was that the Kingdom Halls will provide shelter to all those faithful but more recently and especially with the sale of so many Kingdom Halls the direction has changed to non disclosed bunkers as seen in recent assembly drama. What does a careful consideration of Isaiah 26:20 reveal? The answer may surprise you!

What are the "inner rooms" in Isaiah 26:20?

Maybe I missed something but what are these 'inner rooms?'

Please supply the reference in 2014 where it is claimed that the kingdom hall is the inner room? I differ on that but maybe I missed something. They were discouraging that sort of thinking in the 1990's. A Hall in south America was devastated by a mudslide and they clarified that the inner room was the safety of the actively associating with the congregation and the elder arrangement, not the building. Anyone could just walk inside if that were the case. Help me out, quote it, I don't have the library any longer.

Just went back and read your link. It fooled me, I thought it was Watchtower but its not. The quote does not say its the KH. It says its the local congregation. That does not mean KH building.

I do know that is certain states (US) buildings that are safe for weather conditions that are severe, have a sign designating that on the building. Usually schools and the like.

There was a letter read a while back (this goes back over 5 years) stating that Kingdom Halls were not designated buildings to be used as shelters unless specified.

I figured that was part of their ongoing attempt to have zero liability (or accountability for that matter) toward their flock who gives them all their money.

From my first contact in the early 70's the kingdom halls were suggested as a place of protection ,but mostly what was pushed ,as many old timers know, was to keep close to the brothers in your book study groups who met in nominated homes of the group.

The idea was, if we knew and cared for each others welfare in our book study, we may be directed to the book study home for protection when the shit hit the fan ! This was pushed for many years .

It made me laugh, after I left the org ,when they stopped the arrangement and met at the halls for book study ,so the jehovah given direction was reversed after all the years .I wondered how the dead elders who pushed this shit would feel if they could come back!

I feel the not directing ones to the hall anymore may have started when bad things happened at halls around the world such as the bombing of a kingdom hall in Sydney australia. From then on the lie of people being protected from satan in a hall seemed to disturb the thinking of certain ones. And then they had special bomb squads at assemblies - I know as I was in charge of the Adelaide Australia one for a while.

But underlining all the changes is probably money and liabilty $$$

I guess it is the place where you are closest to the center of worship... in its heart... warwick, where the core team works.... behind the temple curtain ...which is the latest digital 4.o firewall and secret publisher ID..

    Indeed astonishing hypocrisy of GB:

They are urging others to fear persecution and fearmonger about hiding away and install a centralized database with all private info ever about all JW members at the same time!!! Risking so getting easy hacked by the persecutors!! @How contraproductive and irresponsible so short before the attacks! Knowing there is no 100 ÷ secure data protection

As if in our age ecaxtly the enemy- hacker will not be interested and able to get to anyones names from a JW database, e.g. activties, place of living or health situation of lical elders.

GB is indeed not fearing anylonger seemingly or fearmongering over private data LOSS of its members to possible persecutors in the tribulation how heartlesy and nonresponsible

But they wont give their own data into the system I suppose but I wont speculate od course about the things in the future. Lets see then if the records of GB members will be printed out by the UN data specialists when the attacks start persecuting them at the coming " Babylon Great courts" by using hacked publisher ID with data.

(Isaiah 26:20) “Go, my people, enter into your interior rooms, and shut your doors behind you...."

(Proverbs 24:3, 4) "By wisdom a household will be built up, and by discernment it will prove firmly established. 4 And by knowledge will the interior rooms be filled with all precious and pleasant things of value."

Were "interior rooms" being used to symbolically describe the the human mind?

(Both verses from the "old light" NWT)

The interior rooms were never physical...the society said in a 98 WT that they denote the inner room of each congregation...then they added if there is anything else to this prophecy then it will be revealed at a later date.

They have never said it is KH...in fact they have said the opposite in that it is not a physical location.

I quote an old public talk I used to give:

Can I read you a quote from August 15th 1998 Watchtower page 19 paragraph 14. This was quoted at our recent district convention.

In the near future, the greatest time of tribulation ever to strike the human race will break forth suddenly. (Matthew 24:21) When it does, servants of God will need as never before to display confidence in Jehovah’s righteousness and in the direction provided by his organization. In a symbolic way, they will then confidently obey God’s injunction: “Go, my people, enter into your interior rooms, and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourself for but a moment until the denunciation passes over.” (Isaiah 26:20) Already they have entered into the protective atmosphere of over 85,000 congregations in 232 lands. Whatever may additionally be included in the injunction “enter into your interior rooms,” we can be confident that Jehovah will help us to carry it out.

I agree with Was - I don't ever recall them saying that "interior rooms = physical Kingdom Hall building".

It's always some sort of nebulous (and really, meaningless) statement about how "the interior rooms appear to be related to our association with the congregation".

    Here's an example from a 2014 Watchtower:

When Gog begins the assault, Jehovah will tell his servants: “Go, my people, enter your inner rooms, and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourself for a brief moment until the wrath has passed by.” (Isa. 26:20) At that crucial time, Jehovah will give us lifesaving instructions, and the “inner rooms” might well be connected with our local congregations.

WTH does that even mean? Who knows? It sounds "woo-woo, deep, man" to the average JW and that's good enough.

Until the wrath* has passed by.+

      • 8 Soon the destructive winds of the greatest tribulation of all time will be released. (Mark 13:19; Rev. 7:1-3) Then, we will do well to heed this inspired counsel: “Go, my people, enter your inner rooms, and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourself for a brief moment until the wrath has passed by.” (Isa. 26:20) These “inner rooms” may refer to our congregations. That is where we come together as brothers and sisters to worship Jehovah.
