i sometimes get into facebook groups about some aspect of jw life--where i do disclose i used to be one. But most times any such discussion brings out the braindead facebook rabble and ive no interest in wasting any time on them.

However i have a few times come across people who tell me they have at some stage in their lives been jw---but their lifestyle at the time was totally at odds with jw behaviour,

Why do I separate Jehovah's Witnesses from Watchtower? "Jehovah's Witnesses" are the abused "sheep", the poor everyday suckers and "marks" of the 140 + - year old Watchtower Corporate officers and Governing Body members hiding behind the CULT curtain.

I find that admitting to being raised a Jobot is fairly meaningless to most people.

It doesn't come up in normal conversations. No one really cares or would get it.

Someone was surprised recently becaus I didn't know certain old old hymns. I just told him, 'I wasn't raised a Christian'.

Most people are more concerned about the cost of living or the price of Freddos now.

..........anyway, what about the price of Freddo? I'm shocked!!!

No. I am not interested in the pantomime that is Starmer, Trump or those other world leaders. It all pales into insignificance compared to the price of Freddo bars. (Sorry if my non Brit cousins are unfamiliar with this amazing choc bar).

I never share being an ex jw if possible, especially at work. ~ Balaamsass
Only a Jehovah Witness can understand the profound affect it has on your life to be one. ~ moomanchu

AND, only an ex-JW can understand the profound effect that leaving it has on you life. Other people of any other religion can leave the religion of their youth and simply "move on". They can join another church/religion or they can ignore religion or even claim agnosticism or atheism and they are not subject to any ostracism or harassment. They CANNOT comprehend what happens when a JW abandons "The Troof". Others CANNOT even imagine the retaliation it brings from nearly everyone else in your network (because you have been told to limit your network to only JWs).

And as far as sharing with anyone (new friends, associates) of our past JW life, or even our experiences as ex-JWs -- we simply do not mention it. First of all because of the above reason. They just won't "get it". Second, personally I'm too damn embarrassed to admit it. IF they know anything about JWs, they know that JWs have been predicting the End of the World for......forever. And, If they know that, then they know that it has not happened and that the "goofball" JWs are still out there predicting it.

Why would anyone ever admit to being so damn gullible?

    DOC - ditto.

I can imagine the average employer thinking..." just how stupid/gullible is this employee? " " How long did it take to wake up? " "It would be best not to consider his/her decision-making abilities."

    DESIROUS OF CHANGE & BALAAMSASS2:

What I would like to stress to all the born-in/ raised-in Witnesses/ex-Witnesses is that the religion was not honest and up front about what they were. Very deceitful.

This is how somebody raised Catholic like myself was roped in.

Did you know that I was told everybody was equal there? 🤣 I was also told they had ‘no clergy class’ when they do, in fact, claim ecclesiastical privilege in courts of law. Simply, they have a plain clothes clergy.. At first, I didn’t think it was a religion per se..

I personally was only interested in ‘end time prophecy’ and that was it.. Some liars there made it sound like they ‘cracked some code’ in the Bible and I was ‘in the right place’. 🙄 Anyway, it was all lies.

After the honeymoon period was over I saw all the mean-spirited judgmentalism.. When I refused to quit my full-time job to appease these people (and refused to do favors for Users) they made sure I was ‘marked’ and hardly invited anywhere.

So, it wasn’t necessarily about being ‘gullible’. If I had been very gullible & quit my full-time job then I would be in very bad shape today.. Thank God I never listened!

I never tell them that, but I do say I have relatives that are who are always trying to convert me, for years. Some do come back to ask how to deal with jws that keep trying to convert "them." I give them some choices...

As KerryKing says I also say I was raised in a cult. Some time last year I told a nurse this, and added, "We weren't drinking kool-aid or anything :)" and she replied, "You were drinking kool-aid, just not "THE kool-aid," which I found humorous.

Nothing Good or ever happens out of Watchtower! It makes The Truth an Oxymoron.
