an early assassination of Hitler would have resulted in Goebbels or a more military capable general coming to power.

    Goebbels? Not a chance.

Goebbels was the mouthpiece behind Hitler, wrote the speeches, the doctrine. Most people think Goring or Himmler, but Hitler I believe was afraid of both and put them at opposite power houses (one had the military and the other the police) so they checkmated each other. I don’t think a ‘more reasonable’ politician would have taken the place. After Hitler killed himself, Goebbels did take the power (for about 1 day before he committed suicide, but still).

Like most socialists, Hitler had already removed anyone capable from power except for a few very hardcore believers near to him which equally would have assassinated him if opportunity presented itself. Just look at the deaths of Lenin and then later the last days of Stalin, loyalist bureaucrats, too afraid that didn’t are lift a finger when Stalin vis-a-vis Khrushchev (initiated the Cuban Missile Crisis) gathered power under their noses.

    😂

Even Trump has said Putin has changed. "I don't know what has happen to Putin, and I don't like it at all"
The concern now is that Zelensky doesn't seem to care if he starts a WW3 and takes the entire world with him.
The consensus is that if Putin had been killed, Russia would have launched Nuclear Bombs and wiped Ukraine. Then Europe would have launched Nukes at Russia,
Knowing this can happened, Germany is telling Ukraine to launch Missiles to Russia as soon as possible.

Utter rubbish. What has happened is that Trump has finally started to get into his thick skull that Putin is not to be trusted. As if the evidence of his rise to power through the KGB/FSB and to the Russian Presidency in the past 25 years isn't proof enough!

Ukraine has continued to hit military and power assets deep within Russia - very effectively, given the shambles of Russia's defences, after decades of corruption and of Putin thinking he was secure in his Red tower. But to think that Germany wants to start nuclear war in Europe? Ridiculous.

Of course, there will be elements in many governments - including the USA - that might privately wish Putin dead. But that is very different to openly helping and promoting to cause that outcome. The destabilisation that could be caused by Putin's sudden demise could be very bad for everyone: it's a classic dilemma of international politics - although the USA never learned that lesson after Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan... etc, etc, either!

So although it's understandable Ukraine's leaders may want to topple Putin, that threat is in fact worse if Trump refuses to help save the Ukrainian people, because what else are they to do? Putin will never negotiate and back down (unless militarily forced to) as everyone except the "useful idiot" Trump knew, and Trump himself - from the one major power that could force Russia to back down if they really tried - has shown himself to be completely biased in Putin's favour. So if Putin will not listen to Europe's leaders, deliberately avoids meaningful peace talks, and can safely ignore the USA for as long as their President is in his pocket, the only way for a nation at war to try to end the conflict is to defeat their enemy decisively: on the battlefield, and/or by beheading its leadership. It's not a pretty thought, but it's militarily common-sense.

As for Putin himself - if he has changed, it's because his dream of sweeping through the former Soviet states and reclaiming them again is looking further and further away. The once-mighty Soviet war machine is a shadow of its former self and he is both angry and disturbed that he cannot project his power as forcefully as he would like. However, he is still very capable of using espionage, cyberterrorism and other covert methods that the KGB and FSB are well-known for, to undermine his enemies.

There may be little likelihood of seeing Russian tanks roll across Europe (at least, not further west than Poland) any more - thank goodness - but Putin is still far from beaten, and with his politically and diplomatically inept ally Trump in the White House, he must still feel he has some cards to play at the international table.

Where are your sources for that? Because it is equally plausible Russia abandon the war post Putin.

Indeed. The current internal politics of Russia is such that, with Putin gone, it's likely they will be too busy infighting for a succession to think about launching nuclear attacks.

Their economy is tottering, their public services and manpower are at rock-bottom because they've lost so many men, their infrastructure is struggling, and as is now being painfully exposed, their military is weakened and has huge holes in their coverage.

It's a far bigger threat and fear that Russia would collapse into a form of civil war, with the various oligarchs and local leaders vying for power, and with the army, FSB and other state apparatus turning on each other. The biggest concern to the international community would be securing the nuclear assets, as it was when the Soviet Union first collapsed. There were dark talks of radioactive material being sold on the black market to make "dirty bombs" and of terrorist groups getting hold of them but those fears didn't materialise. We have to hope that if today's Russia collapses, it doesn't happen this time either.

    BULLSHIT!

Trump is for MAGA/ Make America Great Again...........Not get involved in a war that will kill American young men and leave tons of widows. In fact Trump has said that it's time for America to leave NATO and let the EU fight their own wars by forcing their young men to fight their wars so the illegal immigrants can finally take over the entire EU and continue raping the white women while the politicians do nothing about it

Trump has enough problems to overcome in America as corrupt Judges, corrupt politicians even in his own party, as well as the corrupt News Media fights daily with Trump to prevent him from deporting rapists, murders, and terrorist and resisting him from trying to reveal all the corrupt Democrats who are stealing the law abiding citizen's tax revenues as well as the Woke agenda.

If the EU is afraid of Putin, then they got two choices, Go Fight him, or summit to him. And Ukraine can fight their own wars.

Just to remind, Ukraine has agreed to an unconditional ceasefire months ago. Russia repeatedly rejected the proposal and continues to escalate the war. And the pathetic chicken buffoon who happens to be a US President did nothing to pressure Putin, being so desperate in his attempts to appease and befriend Russia. Isn't it ridiculous? Now I wonder whether Americans, and MAGA people in particular, have even a bit of dignity.

It's not our fight........Why don't you enlist and go help Ukraine?

Show some dignity and quit asking Others to fight your fights!

Funny to hear all these people complain about Trump when it was Biden that started the war and did literally nothing about it, didn't even get either of them to the table.

The US has been quietly pushing on Putin to come to the table, they have been 3 years without any true aid from the US, so Ukraine was losing, Trump comes by and now they are firebombing Putin's sleeping quarters? Trump gave him an ultimatum now, read between the lines, when he says you've got 2 weeks, like Iran with Suleiman, this is just a shot across the bow.

Putin knows where this is coming from, we just can't say it out loud, because if Trump said it, Putin would have to be 'strong' and respond but Putin admitting they can't fight against a Ukraine-US ally is also a problem. Ukraine signed onto the rare earths deal, this is their 'reward'. It's not all that hard to understand these dynamics.

Putin has signed onto the Western media's depiction of Trump as weak and internally focused, then they are flabbergasted when the US flexes their muscle. You see the same in Gaza, Biden kept things stringing along for over a year with hundreds of hostages in play, now Israel got the go-ahead from Trump, Hamas is running away, Gazans are rebelling against Hamas, there is pandemonium with the Houthi rebels too, years of attacking the Red Sea shipping under Biden, a few weeks after Trump nobody is talking about it anymore, their entire piracy infrastructure has quite literally sunk.
