Probably the best 45 seconds of 1966 for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wyLvagyApY&feature=share Wouldn't it be nice though?

I think the 1986 team should have won it, it was a great team and we were cheated out of it by that ridiculous 'hand of god' crap. I think the 2nd 'wonder goal' he scored minutes later was a direct result of the deflated spirit caused by the injustice of the bad decision.

I can't help rooting for England when they play but it's a bit like the Eurovision Song Contest - you're in it, you're taking part and you hope for a miracle but you know you're not going to win it again.

    Or could we ... ?

The World Cup in Russia is being used to launch V.A.R. - Video Assistant Referee.

It will be very interesting to see if/how it affects the almost obligatory cheating offences of pulling/pushing which occur every time players are in each other's penalty area. Maybe we'll see more penalty kicks than normal being awarded.

    The beautiful game?

Each to their own however, I prefer rugby over football.

Yeah, England winning the World Cup was probably the best sporting moment in 1966.

There was also Muhammad Ali vs Cleveland Williams, that was pretty good.

A lot of crap has been written about Ali vs Williams - 'the Greatest' at his greatest, nobody would've beaten Ali that night, etc.

The truth of the matter was Cleveland Williams had been shot two years earlier by a cop and had a bullet still inside him. He was a once fearsome fighter who was past his prime.

Nevertheless, it's quite something to watch Ali. The way he moved ... his footwork, upper body movement and hand speed were remarkable for a guy who was 6 ft 2 1/2, 6ft 3 and weighed 212 lbs.

Maradonna's hand ball cost us the world cup, no doubt.

But Gazza's 90s team had a darn good chance, they were a great team. The usual bad luck with penalty shoot outs....not saying we would have won the whole Italia 90 world cup but we had as good a chance as any team that year, too.

    What is it now?

That's 1986? Why is it in black and white?
