God? Jehovah? Science? Yourself? Nothing?
As An ExJW or Fader What Do You Believe In?
Everyone needs something to believe in.
l believe I’ll have another beer.
Gee-hovah/ Watchtower = never.
Science = Yes.
Historical Fact= Proven, yes.
My self= Yes.
What do you mean by " believe" min ? When a lot of people use that word, they are referring to trusting that something is true, without evidence. Hence they may "believe" in god.
When it comes to Science, that kind of "belief" is not necessary, Science proves what is true with satisfactory, tested, peer reviewed evidence, no " belief" is necessary.
I will not trust that something is true without the kind of evidence demanded by Science, hence I do not believe in god.
Do I believe in myself ? again, I ask, what exactly do you mean by that ? I believe I exist, I believe I can trust myself to be true to the principles I wish to live my life by etc etc. But is that what you mean ?
You certainly can believe something with or without evidence. Scientists believed the earth was flat. “Evidence “ indicates blah blah blah… until other evidence says something different. Evidence proves Covid didn’t come out of a lab. Ooops, wait a minute. We , the scientists, can’t say we can prove that positively.
You can believe anything you want to believe in.
Do you believe in the science? That’s the question we have been asked for a long time. Sad to say many scientists are given incentives to agree with the people giving them money 💰. If a scientist questions his peers they are often ridiculed or ignored. I don’t think that science is always impartial.
I choose to approach life with what the Japanese call "shoshin" - beginner's mind. That is to approach all things with the attitude "I know nothing".
I believe in theoretical physicist Robert Penrose's theory of a cyclic universe. The universe has no beginning and has no end. It is on an endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth over an extremely long period of time. I believe everything is interconnected.
I believe that something does not come from nothing nor does something turn into nothing. Everything that exists has always existed and will always exist. As conditions change things manifest in different ways. Matter and energy are one and the same. You cannot destroy energy, but you can transform it. As ice melts into water, water evaporates into vapor, and vapor condenses into rain, all things are constantly changing as conditions change.
I believe the past and the future are illusions created by the human brain. There is only the eternal now.
I believe the narrative story created by the human brain as a safety mechanism known as the ego is not our true Self. The true Self is consciousness. Consciousness is much like a radio signal being transmitted by the universe. Our bodies are like a radio that picks up that signal and manifests it into a song. If you turn the radio off, if you unplug the radio, if you disassemble the radio, the signal is still there and ever present.
I believe the human brain is wired for religion. Anything that requires faith is a religion. To say, "I do not believe in gods or the supernatural because I believe one day science will provide a perfectly rational reason for everything" is to have faith in science. Science is just another spiritual practice. It is a great spiritual practice. The mark of a truly great spiritual practice is one that first requires faith and second requires doubts, rationality, and proof through personal experience.
I believe that humanity would be better off now removing itself from religious beliefs and accept the science of are selves and the world in which we live.
I believe in myself, especially as I discovered we're living in a simulation and I now have Neo-like powers.
Your motives and themes are really quite transparent, no matter how you disguise your opening post.
Stand by your words...
"Scientists believed the earth was flat."
By what scientific method?
I have only ever heard JW's use this claim, that scientists once thought the world was flat. Utter nonsense.
Enough with your agendas and daily posts disguised thinly to make a point, it is ruining the forum.
