I guess I'll leave it at 800 x 600 for a while and get used to that. My 17 inch screen is actually 16" when you measure it.
Maybe it's the fact that my monitor is 2 arm lenghts away (4.5 feet) from my eyes made me choose 640 x 480.
I like to sit far away from the monitor, kind of keep away from bad radiation.

Hmm... if there is "bad radiation" coming off of your monitor, why would adding a couple feet of distance help much? Since when does air attenuate radioactivity effectively?
I think that there is a reasonable distance from your eyes to the monitor. A person 1 foot away from the screen will have eye problems in no time. I guess that there is an optimum distance. Lets say 3 feet?

Agreed, but it has nothing to do with lessening the supposed "harmful" radiation coming from a monitor. Ergonomics are all about not straining various parts of your body... eyes included.

I tried my fathers 19 inch monitor on 800 x 600 resolution, and it's the perfect screen size/ resolution ratio for me.
So, now all I need is a new computer to go with that 19" LCD screen.
I'm glad to see that this topic excites you sens.
JH: before you buy a 1600x1200 LCD and run it at a 800x600, I strongly recommend that you go to a store and see what it will look like. It should look good because it is exactly 1/2 of the native resolution, but I am just guessing as I don't run LCDs at non-native resolutions.
