The Society's View of Women

Blondie, my mother would ask me a question and preface it in this way: "Since you're an elder and you've got holy spirit...." Yes, she'd listen to me. Sometimes, if she would get down on herself and lose perspective because of sickness, I'd resort to telling her that she should accept what I was trying to tell her because, after all, "I was appointed by holy spirit"......She was very submissive to the elders.

I wonder if she would have listened to you as an elder if you had told her it was mostly lies and she should leave with you? I think she wouldn't be so obedient.

Min, most sisters are not that obedient, they just put on a good show or are passive-aggressive in their rebellion. I think that is why so many women gossip in the congregations. Too many wives run the show behind the scenes.

Your mother sounds like she could listen to you. But of course now that you are not an elder, you no longer have access to the holy spirit. That is not what is in writing, supposedly we all have holy spirit.

Just as in most areas of JW life, it is all illusion.

Hope things are going well for your wife.

I may be saying this based on limited experience, but I suspect that I'm not the only one that has seen this. I agree that the accepted vision of women was the whole "weaker vessel" routine. But in two of the three congregations I was in it was real clear that a good number of decisions got made after the lights went out and Sister Elder turned over and said to Brother Elder "we need to talk."

FYI a man would rather gnaw his own head off before he has to hear those four words.

As a member of the Servant Body off and on for 16 years I saw a common thread of condescension toward females. The Brothers would talk all loving and sweat to their faces, but as the sisters walked away, these men would role their eyes at the silly girl! To and from shepherding calls, the inside information being given would help "shed light" on the sister to be visited. It was usually stuff that diminished the person in the eyes of the Brother who knew little about this sister. In my experience, women were to be used, payed as little as possible, but given a pat on the head to keep them happy! Maverick

In the organization, women are viewed as emotional. If a woman is strongly opinionated, she is considered a troublemaker. The Society views women as weak, especially when it comes to sex. That's why brothers shouldn't be alone with women because you never know if THEY might get weak and want to tell you their problems and try to get your support. .........Regarding my mother, since she is pro-organization, she would think that if I ever told her that the Watchtower is filled with lies (while I was an elder), that I must need mental help or that I was going through a mid-life crisis or something. The "bad spirit of Jehovah" must've taken over.........All in all, females are considered a "lesser one".

Min? Can you say "Steaming Meadow Muffins"? When the WT-BATS menz aren't stepping on or over the womenz, they're scraping the womenz off their shoes...

Did You feel that women were treated as equals or lesser ones in the congregation?

    Of course minimus.....you silly man!

But really - the way I feel now....who gives a rip what they think.

Dawn.......from the "Eat my shorts" "KISS MY @SS" class

Ok.....edited to say that "Eat my shorts" doesn't really express what I feel about them. So with an advanced apology to anyone who might be offended by vulgar language.................. I have edited the above line to express my TRUE feelings.

    Cussing........the tobasco sauce of language

But there is a more insidious message there. Men are strong, durable...women will crack under any kind of pressure, so watch out.

Wow. I guess they were right about a few things.
