Russell sued the Eagle for libel, demanding $100,000 in damages for "injury to his reputation, good name, fame and standing."

    $100,000 in 1912 = $2,500,000 today.

The greed for money, power, control and exploiting religious virtue to create an element of outward honesty, this is where religion can be useful, as it effects human emotions and human ignorance at the same time..

For late 19th century charlatans selling the return of Jesus Christ was relatively a easy venture based upon the level of knowledge and education that was present at the time, not so much in this era.

The power of money in Russell's day cannot be imagined in today's terms.

Life back then was extraordinarily different.

Today, even the poorest family has so many conveniences such as TV, central heat and air, flush toilets, refrigerator, cell phone, wheels, etc.

Russell even had a very large yacht!
