I agree with mickbobcat’s dismissal of rap, but Iwould never want to ban something just because I don’t like it...

In many cases the lyrics are offensive, so why does mainstream media play them ?

I love old blues records . In some cases they sing of similar social problems and misbehaviour as modern rap artists do. Were they played on radio at the time? I doubt it.

I think any music that encourages violence against anyone else should be banned - the thing is, most rap songs don't encourage actual violence against real people.

The lyrics do seem to glorify violence, though.

However, haven't we been here before?

There is no link between pornography and men who rape women, from what I remember.

There is no link between people who watch horror films and violent crime.

Can't people listen to rap, with the strongest of lyrics, without murdering a bunch of people?

I mean, it can't be a legitimate excuse, can it - a young thug arrested for attempted murder, and the guy says 'well, I listen to rap music, you see, and the lyrics told me to do it'

The greatest rapper of all time wrote a song about that very thing. The end summarizes the argument, saying:

Man, I'm just as f**ked up as you woulda been
If you woulda been in my shoes, who woulda thought
Slim Shady would be somethin' that you woulda bought?
That woulda made you get a gun and shoot at a cop
I just said it, I ain't know if you'd do it or not

@uni- lol why are you arguing with these clowns? They are the same generation whos parents told them the Beatles would make them sex fiends and they told their kids Kiss and twisted sister was devil worshipping music. People so lacking in perspective wont gain anything from rational discussion. Just laugh and turn it up.

It shouldn't be banned. Just like violent video games shouldn't be banned. We are talking about banning speech.

The music a culture produces is a symptom of some of the underlying issues. Dare I say, the underlying issues map quite closely to the same issues that produce the "woke" mentality. The reason certain aspects of our society can't seem to get a foothold on prosperity track with the groups that celebrate this crap.

I’m all for free speech. Be fair. Woke people turn a blind eye to violent speech if their people are engaging.

You know min, your last post seems to have some really deep biases built into it. On the surface it reads as if you believe that:

    1) all rap is violent speech. (Go listen to a will smith song).

    2) only “woke” people listen to rap. I assure you 99% of people who are rap fans are anything but “woke”.

    3) you seem to be implying that only negros listen to rap by saying “their people”. Every rapper knows to make it big they have to cross over to more than just blacks. Its a simple numbers game.

    4) and that the “woke” crowd embraces rap. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The woke crowd hates rap because of its so called misogynistic mentality.

The simple truth of “woke” culture is that its white suburban women and other highly privileged “woc’s” who see a chance to virtue signal, and a very small number of soy boys who hope against all odds they can get laid if they play along.

The only reason this soft serve mentality has ANY traction is because on social media its easy to mistake whining bitchs for big dogs. Companies have this bizarre concept that every little yappy bitch on social media has influence and money to spend when the truth is the big dogs dont waste time on social media, Twitter especially. Slowly companies are coming around but for now its a fact of life.

Dont conflate Twitter mobs for real life.

You make a lot of assumptions that I did not say. If rap music , not all rap obviously, is disgusting and dehumanizing why is it ok to ignore that with the woke crowd? Don’t worry about cartoons and syrup if you are turning a blind eye to the glorification of killing the police and rape. Pretty simple. Really. And by the way if the woke crowd really hated bad rap music they would/should make a stink but we hear nothing about it.
