The push back then was to get the student to commit to getting baptized because Watchtower wants more members..
The push today is to stop wasting magazines because Watchtower is out of money. -

There was a 6-month "Bible study" limit in the late 1960s and early 1970s because Armageddon was coming in 1975 and there was no sense wasting time on people who weren't coming around fast enough.
