UPDATE - USA: Boy says school-bus driver told him he and his moms are going to hell

UPDATE regarding the above Tuesday 7 March 2017 story

Orlando Sentinel, Friday 10 March 2017

Boy says school-bus driver told him he and his moms are going to hell

Nathaly Encarnacion said she was hurt and devastated when her son came home from school telling her and her partner that all three of them were going to hell because of his moms' same-sex relationship.

    ...

It started when Encarnacion's son brought home a Jehovah's Witnesses business card in early February, she said.

He had missed his regular bus home from Alta Vista Elementary School one afternoon and was put on a different bus. He told the driver, later identified as Jacobo, that he was worried his two moms would be upset that he was getting home so late, Encarnacion said.

Jacobo allegedly told the boy in Spanish that he won't get into heaven because of his parents' same-sex relationship and gave him the business card.

    ...

“I've gotten a lot of backlash because I've been told Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in hell,” she added, “but what he described to me is what I think of as hell.”

    ...

“The School District's review of this incident has been completed,” spokesman Jason Geary wrote in an email. “She has been counseled by her supervisor on how to properly interact with students, including not to discuss or promote religious matters with students.”

Jacobo was hired Aug. 31, 2012, and has no disciplinary action in her personnel file, according to Geary.

A policy advisory letter signed by both Jacobo and her supervisor Wednesday will be placed in her file, he said.

It calls Jacobo a valued team member and reads, “This letter is not to be construed as disciplinary in nature, but is intended to inform or re-familiarize you with School Board policy as it relates to student supervision and welfare.”

The letter points out standards of ethical conduct that state a support staff member with direct access to students shall “make a reasonable effort to protect the student from conditions harmful to learning and/or to the student's mental and/or physical health and/or safety” and “not intentionally expose a student to unnecessary embarrassment or disparagement.”

CUBA: JW minor beaten by several policemen in Morón, complains his father

    Marti Noticias, 10 March 2017

Minor, Jehovah's Witness, beaten by several policemen in Morón, complains his father

Luis Lemagne Millán, 15, was beaten at a police station in Morón and transferred to a Provincial Detention Center in Ciego de Avila. Parents are unaware of the reasons for the arrest.

A minor has been detained since February 28 at the Provincial Unit for the Detention of Minors in Ciego de Avila, although he is not accused of any charges, according to his father in an interview with Radio Martí.
    ...

The minor was assaulted at the police station and then taken to the hospital where he received medical attention. From there he was transferred to the juvenile section of the Detention Center in the city of Ciego de Ávila, contiguous to the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of the Interior.

"We went to warn the house at 2:00 am but we could not see it until 10:00 am in the hospital. That's where we could do the photos of the blows in the face," said Luis, who believes that the cruelty against the son occurs because the family is Jehovah's Witness and the black race.

SWITZERLAND: Thousands of sexual assaults in JWs

Another major article about the abuse report recently pubished in Switzerland - see above post from seven days ago

    Tages Anzeiger, 6 March 2017

Thousands of sexual assaults in Jehovah's Witnesses

Investigations and trials in several countries show a parallel world in which loyalty to the faith community counts more than the welfare of the children.

The Christian-fundamentalist religious community of the Jehovah's Witnesses, also known as the Wachtturm Society, makes headlines all over the world because it has concealed the sexual abuse of minors for decades. Processes in many countries document the large extent of the attacks of some of the high-ranking witnesses.

However, the authorities of most countries do not dare to shed light on the dark chapter of the religious community that has built up a parallel world. In Great Britain, however, two state commissions investigate sexual assaults with Jehovah's Witnesses. In several processes, believers must be held responsible for such acts.

AUSTRALIA: Why I Refused To Go To Gay Son's Wedding

Front page splash on the Sunshine Coast Daily, Friday 17 March 2017

YVONNE, the mother of Chris on Bride and Prejudice, has for the first time explained why she couldn't attend her gay son's wedding.

It comes as her son claimed how "near daily conditioning" by Jehovah's Witnesses drove his mother to "overwrite her own maternal instincts to support her faith".

In a letter to the Daily, Chris responded to Jehovah's Witness spokesman Rodney Spinks' comments that his mum was not speaking on behalf of the organisation.

USA: We Would Have Stayed Together If Our Son Hadn’t Died, Prince’s Ex-Wife Says

We Would Have Stayed Together If Our Son Hadn’t Died, Prince’s Ex-Wife Says

The death of Prince and his ex-wife Mayte Garcia’s newborn son in 1996 not only devastated the couple, but ultimately doomed their marriage, his former spouse and one-time muse tells PEOPLE.

“I don’t think he ever got over it,” Garcia says in an exclusive interview and excerpt from her new memoir The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince that appears in this week’s PEOPLE. “I know I haven’t.”

    ...

Prince retreated into the teachings of Jehovah’s Witnesses faith. “At the time it was giving him the answers that he liked,” Garcia recalls. “Looking back, I probably would have done things differently now. But back then I just wanted to forget the pain.”

AUSTRALIA: ABC and Fairfax Media "out-to-lunch" when Royal Commission Conducted Public hearings into the Uniting Church Last Friday (after lunch)

The Australian - Media Watch - Gerard Henderson - Friday 17 March 2017

MEDIA WATCH: ABC and Fairfax Media "out-to-lunch" when Royal Commission Conducted Public hearings into the Uniting Church Last Friday (after lunch)

Here’s some news which the ABC and Fairfax Media do not regard as fit-to-print. Over the past four decades, a child in Australia was much more likely to suffer sexual abuse at a school or institution run by the Uniting Church than at a school or institution run by the Catholic Church.
    ...

The statistics available to the Royal Commission with respect to the Uniting Church cover the period from 1977 to the present. That is, unlike the Catholic Church and the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the allegations do not relate to a period going back to 1950.

    ...

Yet you would not be aware of any of this if you followed only the reporting of the Royal Commission by the ABC, Fairfax Media, The Guardian and The Saturday Paper. It seems the likes of Samantha Donovan, Philippa McDonald, Louise Milligan, Joanne McCarthy and Rachel Browne did not come back from lunch on Friday 10 February and simply missed the coverage of sexual child abuse in the Uniting Church in the four decades since 1977.

    ...

This is of special interest since Mark Scott, a one-time editorial director at Fairfax Media’s Sydney Morning Herald and a one-time editor-in-chief at the ABC, joined the board of the Uniting Church’s Knox Grammar in late 2007 and was deputy chairman between mid-2013 and 2016.

SPAIN: JWs 'plugged' a one million euro entrepreneurial hole

    Cronica, Saturday 18 March 2017

Jehovah's Witnesses 'plugged' a one million euro entrepreneurial hole

The cult asked to maintain the "peace" of a congregation in Galicia to avoid that the case of emptying of the company reached civil justice

Jehovah's Witnesses asked to hide a million-euro business hole at a supply company in La Coruña (Galicia). The cult appealed to the "peace" of the congregation to pressure the co-owners of the firm and prevent them from reporting the case to ordinary justice.

The case concerns a well-known construction supplies company based in the provincial capital. The company, founded in 1975, belongs to a family that has been a member of the Witnesses since it was born.

When one of the parents died in 2014, one of the daughters inherited a share in society. The rest of the capital remained in the hands of his relatives.

    "One million euros"

When the citizen received the shareholding inheritance, she discovered a remarkable puff in the mercantile in what seemed a solvent company, according to it appears from the documents to which this newspaper has been able to access.

According to what the papers that are in the hands of several congregations of Witnesses in Galicia , the partner would have discovered the suspicious sale of an industrial warehouse and diversion of funds.

Likewise, the creation of a very similar company with a similar name emerged, a redirected web portal and an identical telephone. With this stratagem, the parallel merchant would have taken the goodwill, the merchandise and the clientele.

The complainant estimates that the loss caused by the alleged unfair administration totals one million euros, 400,000 euros in diverted funds and 600,000 in goods transferred to society B.
