Odd things that come to mind when buying something!
I was just thinking about the odd things that arise when out shopping.
I saw a bag the other day, and thought "that would be a perfect 'service' bag as it is just the right size for....oh hang on..."
And when buying nice shoes, the thought is there somewhere..."these will be comfortable when walking around the streets..."
Gotta laugh hey!?
Ohh - what a nice car. .... but it has only 2 doors. Elders will councel me, that a 4-door car ist much better for taxi the fieldservice group
To help me adjust mentally I just rightly tell myself I got conned by a slick American realestate company that has no salary . All the best bullshit artists wear the suits. The only thing I see athe shops that reminds me of JWs is the sign at the hardware store that says trespassers will be shot.
This is so true! My husband will still look at a suit or a coat and immediately think, that would be nice for the meetings...and he hasn't been for nearly 20 years, apart from the odd Memorial. It's still in his head!
As for me, I've just emptied my ministry bag, chucked its contents away and given the bag to the local charity shop. It felt liberating!
I'll never buy anything revealing to wear because the idea of "modesty" from the Society has been so drummed into my skull. And anything I DO own that's above the knee is something I'd never have the nerve to wear out in public for fear of being seen by other Witnesses - even when I know of active sisters who DO wear short-shorts or above-the-knee skirts when out shopping. It's okay for them because they're "active". If a fader wore those clothes, there'd be talk about how "worldly" and "corrupted by Satan" I've become : (.
S2... you need to get out more.. (jus joking)
STUCKINARUT & WAKE ME UP..:
When you have been out a long time like I have, these thoughts don't enter your mind anymore.
When I was in and was getting another car at some point a nervy idiot sister said something about 'making sure I get a four-door for service'..to which I replied: 'if they're paying my car payments then they can tell me what kind of car I should get'.
When I started my "fade" I got rid of all the dowdy dresses I had and got more stylish things with somewhat shorter skirts.
Funny story: many years ago when I had a shepherding call at my home, one brother criticized the skorts I was wearing! ....Here I was at home being casual! I had seen his own wife wear shorts at a picnic that were shorter than my skorts. I supposed some women were persecuted more than others because of their figure!
I take comfort that all this nonsense, drama and unnecessary grief is in the past.
@LongHairGal So true about some sisters being under the microscope more than others based on their figure. I'm no supermodel, but because I wasn't 200 kilos with a mustache, I would get more scrutiny than a robust sister whose clothing was, by KH standards, revealing. I've never worn above-the-knee skirts or low cut dresses. But if something looked a little "too" flattering on me, I'd be sure to hear about it.
I find myself looking at cool tshirts and thinking "oh if only i was allowed to wear that... hang on... i can wear that" and next thing you know im walking the streets of Liverpool in this...
