    To all our Aussie friends!

My kid sister and cousin are heading your way (via Thailand of course) they will be hitting Aussie in about 1-2 weeks.

Do you guys have any tips or recommendations for her?

    Thanks!

Where are they planning to go/see/visit? Two weeks is a short time to see much of Australia.

I'd suggest going to the Top End - Darwin, down to Alice Springs and Ayers Rock. Or to Nthn Queensland, to the Whitsunday Islands.

If they want to party, then Sydney is the place to go. But you can party just about anywhere in Aus!

Whatever they do, DON'T HITCH HIKE!! We've lost a few tourists who didn't realise that not all Aussies are friendly.

They should have a GREAT time. It's winter over here, so they will need to pack a spare jumper or jacket for the cooler nights (even in the tropics).

Good question Prisca! I had little chance to chat to her about the finer details of her trip - she is a free spirit type girl, does a lot of things on spec. although I’m sure that she will be doing a lot of planning for Aussie at this time.

She is still in Thailand at the moment, 1 month Thailand 1 month Aussie, so she has plenty of time. I will try to find out just what her plans are.

Thanks for the tips re: hitch hiking! I think that I will definitely pass on your comments! I do worry.

I’ll try to get her to post on here maybe....

    Thanks guys!

    Update on my sister........

Thank you all for your kind suggestions! I have sent my sister copies of what you recommended.

At present my sister and cousin are 'chillin' out' after trekking in the jungle for two nights (i guess it was planned tour! lol) They are absolutely loving it in Thialand, the food especially! There heading to Oz in TWO days! They have been diving, river rafting, boat trips, paradasaic beaches and drinking! "it's hard being bothered to do anything" was one of her most recent comments....lol Good for her....she certainly deserves it!

Anyhow thanks again! Keep those suggestions coming!

If Sydney, there are a few must see/do things that are walkable from the city centre: Sydney Opera House, walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, NSW Art Gallery, Royal Botanical Gardens, Australian Museum, Hyde Park, Centrepoint Tower, Darling Harbour and Powerhouse Museum. A ferry to Manly from Circular Quay and a walk along the Corso to Manly Beach is also worth doing. There is also a "Sydney Explorer" bus that does the rounds; you can get on and off all day for the one price.

    Thanks Stephanus!

I will send her a copy of your post. I reckon that she will be doing the all important travel plans by now....it must be great having a whole month free to roam anywhere you want in.......AUSTRALIA!!!

    No worries, Latte!

I forgot to add: Sydney Aquarium (in Darling Harbour) and King's Cross. The latter has an international reputation as Sydney's sleaze-pit. It now is suffering from lack of tourism since 9/11 and also from determination to clean it up by both State and Local Governments. Bondi Beach (Oz's most famous beach) can be reached by bus from the city centre (the Explorer probably goes there anyway).

    Awwww thanks Stephanus!

I will pass on your comments, it really helps to know where to go....and where not to! lol

My sister is thoroughly enjoying all this sightseeing, not at all like me when I stayed away for a month - I was homesick!!
