I had the "priviliage" of attending the 3 days of the "Give God Glory" convention. For those interested, i will be posting some observations. In one of the first talks, the speaker interviewed a young one, who gave his "experience" of being on the internet and being "seduced" by the pornography so readily available there. He admitted to sitting at the computer for up to 3 hours a day looking at porno. Till the fateful day came when his parents checked up on what he had been looking up, and made the gruesome discovery of his porno watching. How humiliating. He said his parents encouraged him to go to the Elders, which he did, and confess his "sins". He encouraged all the "young ones" in attendance to avoid this "snare". I'm sure the Elders had encouraged him as part of his "repentance"to go on stage in front of 4,000 people and tell his story. I'm sure he'll probably think twice before logging on to "Chicks With Dicks" in the future. More to come.......................................

Thanks for this tale from the inside, Integ!! It's really appreciated.

My thought about it is -- is this story in the least bit "enhanced" for the audience? Perhaps it is a combination of several stories? My suspicions get aroused almost ANYTIME there is a "story" told from the assembly platform. I remember experiences being told, and certain young people looking really really good after their on-stage performance, when in reality they weren't so upstanding. (Once when I was an unbaptized publisher, still about 11 years old, I was "interviewed" -- but in reality given scripted answers as to how I'd handle certain witnessing situations... I felt like I was play-acting.)

So on the flip side, can they exaggerate a story to add titillation value to the JW audience, to make them pay attention and scare them further away from the Internet? Perhaps they're encouraging spying and tattling, parents vs. sons, even wives vs. husbands.

I'm so glad they dragged this young person out to tell his experience. All I can do is add an appropriate reminder about his tale, "WE DON'T KNOW FOR SURE!!"

It would be interesting to hear if something very, very similar gets repeated at every convention. If that happens either its been scripted (for sure if it's an almost indentical story everywhere) or somebody got instructions to find a wrong-doer and hang him in public. Find the wrong-doer would be an no brainer: you can through a handfull of gravel into a kingdom hall and find somebody that is smoking/spanking the monkey/looking at porn/talking to apostates, whatever. Make a few minutes of public humiliation part of "being honestly repentant" and here's an experience.

Integ, you weren't too specific about the age of this "young one," but I'm picturing a kid about fourteen, who was only doing something fourteen year olds do. I hope the poor kid hasn't been screwed up for life.

    Integ,

LMAO! No, he will not be picking up any chicks any time soon. Poor little wanker..... he's gonna regret that for the rest of his life.

Talk about being publicly humiliated. That poor kid!

Everyone in the district must have him branded as a closet pervert. Someday, he is going to greatly regret having submitted to that, if he doesn't already.

I can picture some prospective girlfriend questioning this guy a few years from now about his little porn habit. This guy may indeed be ruined for life girl-wise.

What a twit! That's what he gets for not hiding his porn better...*LOL*

Any other assembly notes? any other highlights, other than the closing prayer on Sunday?

Don't tell me that they did not ask for money. How many times did they talk about the widow that gave everything that she had.
