What has it been in the past?

In fact the WTS says that baptism as a jw is the mark mentioned at Ezekiel 9:4-6. That people who are not will die forever at Armageddon.

In Ezekiel’s day, no one received a literal mark on his forehead. The same is true today. What do people need to do to be symbolically marked for survival? They need to react favorably to the preaching work that is taking place, put on the Christian personality, dedicate themselves to Jehovah, and loyally support Christ’s brothers. (Matt. 25:35-40) Those who do these things will receive the mark of survival during the coming great tribulation.

Notice that baptism is left out but implied. But also, the anointed on earth are not doing the marking, are the angels then?

The self-proclaimed "faithful slave" used to claim that the "anointed remnant" still on earth were doing this marking work.

w83 12/15 p. 17 par. 6 - "Today there is only a small remnant of the members of the “royal priesthood” yet in the flesh on earth, according to the world report from the celebration of the Lord’s Evening Meal on March 29, 1983. These serve together as the figurative linen-clad man, who does the marking of worthy ones in their foreheads."

In a very recent Watchtower they abandoned this pathetic doctrine and now give the credit of such marking to Christ himself!

WT June 2016, pp.16,17 Questions From Readers: "In the modern-day fulfillment, the man with the secretary’s inkhorn represents Jesus Christ, the one behind the scenes who marks those who will survive. The great crowd will receive their mark when they are judged as sheep during the great tribulation. This will put them in line to receive everlasting life here on earth."

The WTS even in earlier publications called the anointed "The Christ" because they were the body of Christ.

Exactly Blondie and I was shocked to read that their death is part of the sin atoning value of Christ's as they are one with him. That was just one thing that helped get me out of the cult!

So as usual, a person's literal salvation, is tied directly to supporting "Men" in authority at an earthly organization. What a bunch of charlatans!

It's amazing how many times, out of how many completely unrelated scriptures, they can make up out of completely thin air, the concept of "supporting Christ's brothers" as "essential to salvation".

I suspect by "Christ's brothers" they don't mean the professed anointed in general who are now regulated to domestics, but they really mean the Governing Body.

Good post Blondie, thanks for noting this. This article is yet another example of where the WT exposes god's real intent with Armageddon and that the only way of putting yourself in line for salvation is by becoming a Witness. Emphasising the need for all to hear the message at the end of the article reinforces the futility of the preaching work and the ability of the WT to actually inform and motivate anywhere near a meaningful portion of the population.
