An org myth debunked - by the book they claim to have a better understanding of, than other religions.

wt14 11/15 p. 30 - Who are the two witnesses mentioned in Revelation chapter 11?

"......the account refers to God’s anointed ones who took the lead during a difficult time of testing.

So in the fulfillment of Revelation chapter 11, the anointed brothers who took the lead at the time of the establishment of God’s Kingdom in heaven in 1914 preached "in sackcloth" for three and a half years. At the end of their preaching in sackcloth, these anointed ones were symbolically killed when they were thrown into prison for a comparatively shorter period of time, a symbolic three and a half days. However, true to the words of the prophecy, :) at the end of the three and a half days, the two witnesses were brought back to life. Not only were these anointed ones released from prison but those who remained faithful received a special appointment from God through their Lord, Jesus Christ. In 1919 they were among those who were appointed to serve as a "faithful and discreet slave" to care for the spiritual needs of God’s people during the last days."—Matt. 24:45-47; Rev. 11:11,12.

Revelation 11:7 says that it is "the wild beast that ascends out of the abyss" which kills the 'two witnesses'.

Revelation 17:8 gives us more information about this beast by describing it as "the wild beast that you saw was, but is not, and yet is about to ascend out of the abyss...."

Revelation 17:8 is interpreted by the org as representing the League of Nations, followed by the rise of the United Nations. (Revelation Book chap. 34 pp. 247-248)

According to the Bible, the 'two witnesses' (allegedly Rutherforford et al) would be killed by the beast which ascends out of the abyss, and as every J.W. will tell you, that beast is the United Nations.

The United Nations was formed in 1945 - 26 years after Rutherford & Co. were freed from prison!

Will the U.N. dig up Rutherford's corpse and incinerate it? Time for a "new light" on this one?

I don't know, does the UN really want to dig up the garage in a mansion in San Diego?

Their interpretation of the nonsensical Revelation is naturally nonsensical.

But wouldnt the witnesses say that the League of Nations and the United nations are virtually the same thing ? so no problem ?

Or am I missing the point somewhere here.

ps. this is another post that doesnt seem to have generated much interest

Who imprisoned Rutherford and friends? I thought it was the US Government, not the League of Nations. It would seem also that the United Nations has proven to be helpful to the Watchtower over the years, through providing library access to advocating freedom of religion.

League of Nations was not formed until January 1920, well after JFR & Co were released.

    2 experiences

    1) at a WT study the conductor asked, "What do we base our beliefs on?" as he started holding up the WT. The COBOE grabbed the mike and quickly "The Bible" as the conductor lowered the WT.

    2) at an elders meeting as a new elder took out his bible to share a scripture to back up his previous statement, an older elder, said "brother, brother we don't have time for that. We base our actions on this book as he held up the elders manual.
