After 3 and a half years of inactivity, Ali was hardly “prime” against Frazier.

I thought Louis was a great fighter but I’d put Ali on top.

Mike Tyson was the baddest man on the planet for a while. He would just stare at an opponent before the fight and they would melt. And he wasn’t a big heavyweight!

After 3 and a half years of inactivity, Ali was hardly “prime” against Frazier - yeah, I've heard this lots of times.

Before Frazier, Ali had two tune-up fights against top contenders who had similar styles as Joe - Jerry Quarry and Oscar Bonavena. Ali beat both, and had hundreds of rounds sparring in the gym. His weight for Joe was a trim and ready 215 lbs. Ali fought Joe in March 1971 and had recently turned 29 in January 1971.

No excuses - Ali was as good as he could be, but lost.

You can say what you want but Ali beat Frazier to a pulp two times afterward. He proved who was the better man.
