Spy camera wanted, motion activated, wireless, etc.

Okay, it doesn't have to be a spy camera.

It must be something wireless that send signals to my Android smart phone. And some of those spy cameras seem to have fairly good features but they are also scary. Their descriptions are obviously translated from some other language and I would worry about decent customer support.

I'd simply like to be notified the moment a certain cabinet door (actually, two doors) is opened. But it's a door that may not be opened for weeks at a time. That's kind of important as the device's battery may need replacing or recharging too often. I, therefore, need notification when battery is low. By the way, space is limited in this cabinet with less than 2 inches from the inside of the door to the back of the cabinet.

It could be a proximity sensor that triggers a built-in camera. But it needs to turn off when there is no longer motion.

I suppose it could be one of those window/magnet sensors. Separate the magnet and a signal is sent. However, the ones I've looked at are too large for my 2 inch confines.

For what it's worth, I just returned a package that I truly hoped would work but it turns out that my firewalls (both router and Windows 10) seemed to be one problem. Plus my wireless router may have been a bottleneck. I thought it was too risky to invest on a different router.

That package of hardware was by CAO Gadgets LLC, a Tag Manager, plus 2 tags (the sensors) both with 3d position sensitivity. The sensors, each with a purportedly long life disk battery, sends wireless signals upon a change of x,y,z position to the Tag Manager, which is connected to the router. That, in turn, relays the signal to an internet connected phone or tablet.

    Tips?

Here's one that kinda looks promising. But the price of shipping is a bit pricey for my budget.

I have been made aware that my local cell phone carrier has all sorts of security gadgets. And they love selling stuff.

    Hi Stillin,

And the name of your phone carrier is .... ?

Verizon. It seems like what you need is the right motion-activated camera and an app.

That's a good one, VI. No, it's actually my wife's jewelry chest of drawers. While the 7 or 8 drawers in the front are key lockable, the two side doors are not. Go figure. They are quite shallow cuz they just have hooks for bracelets and necklaces. But there is room for some electronic presence.

Sounds like a bathroom / medicine cabinet ... someone stealing prescription meds?

If that's the case, approach things a different way - presumably the camera is because you suspect something ... which really means you already know. Instead of trying to catch someone, focus on prevention. Buy a cheap home safe with combination and put them in there.

Hope I'm way off and it's something less important ... like you want to protect your secret porn hiding place. ;)
