What do you think about these things. It seems like a monumental waste of time and money, a pipe dream of the Governing Body based on wishful thinking. This Corporation is going down the tubes with these asshole deluded genius's calling the financial investment shot.

Buying Chemical dump property around the world to build their financial empire headquarters on while facing massive child molestation lawsuits now and many more in the future means it looking kind of bleak for these messed idiots running things.

Remote Translation Offices (RTO) of Jehovah's Witnesses Help Spread the Kingdom News Around the World
Peru: Ayacucho/Huamanga Remote Translation Office (RTO) (Remota de Traducción) of Jehovah's Witnesses

Jehovah's Witnesses publish Bibles and Bible literature in more than 800 languages (spoken and sign languages)*to spread the Good News of God's Kingdom worldwide in 240* lands to people from diverse backgrounds, educational levels, and living standards. To accomplish this, Jehovah’s Witnesses have branch offices around the world which arrange the translation, printing, and shipping of Bible literature in the languages they supervise.
Until the recent years, most translators worked at their branch office, even if their language was spoken in other areas of the territory. It was a challenge for them to keep up with their language and to reach the hearts of those reading the translated publications. Now, though, many teams of translators have been relocated to offices ("remote translation offices" and "regional translation offices") in the areas where their language is spoken. And new translation teams are being started in remote locations.
The Advantage of Remote Translation Offices
Example of the advantage of the Remote Translation Offices (RTO) of Jehovah's Witnesses
Africa: Remote translation offices spread over the country are supporting the Mozambique branch office
By way of illustration, the Mozambique branch office is located in Maputo, in the south of the large country (the distance between north and south is more than 1,000 miles). There are more than 40 languages spoken in Mozambique: Portuguese, Emakhuwa, Cisena, Xichangana, Elomwe, Tshwa, Xironga, Chichewa etc. Remote translation offices spread over the country – one of them the Massinga Regional Translation Office – make it possible to translate Bible literature in various languages spoken in the provinces of Mozambique in a high quality of translation: in a way that touches the heart of the people!
    Bible Literature for the Deaf
More than 300 remote translation offices of Jehovah's Witnesses have been constructed through the recent years
More than 300 RTOs have been established worldwide in recent years
The Design/Construction Departments of Jehovah's Witnesses have established more than 300 remote translation offices worldwide in the recent yeary and continuously plan and construct new translation offices at full speed.
In 2015 the United States branch office was expanded with the Fort Lauderdale ASL (American Sign Language) Translation Office in Florida. Translation teams of Jehovah’s Witnesses around the globe produce and distribute numerous video publications in some 80 sign languages free of charge. Jehovah’s Witnesses have also produced the JW Library Sign Language app that allows users to easily download, organize, and play sign-language videos from jw.org.

Yes they must be thinking of selling these in the future but the money used is making these idiotic things will make the sell date happen quicker and many project won't be totally complete which will mean more loss of money, which will make them a true nonprofit in every sense of the word.

I've tried to rationalize these RTO locations. Clearly Ft Lauderdale is a bullshit excuse to have a luxury escape place. Anything that can be done in FLA could be done at Warwick. No need for multi-million$$ spend on a posh office there.

Africa? 1000 miles from any Branch Office. Maybe they need "locals" to translate these languages. I'll buy that.

Aruba? I call bullshit. No doubt every GB member needs to do an onsite visit to the Aruba RTO.

All the others on the maps? Seem ridiculous, unless it's purpose is to HIDE ASSETS outside of the USA and away from the lawsuits. JMHO... DOC

Did you see the multi-million dollar mansion/translation office for the Welsh language? It makes Beth-Sarim look like a shanty.

    Same scam, different decade...

There's nothing safer than property to invest their millions. The million pound sea-front 'translation' property in Wales will make a decent profit when they eventually sell. Meanwhile it's a lovely holiday home for the Bethel elite. I've seen the VIP lounge Bethel uses at Twickenham, they like their luxury.

They're a real estate investment company disguised as a religion.

They're investing... What did we expect?

I think this is more to do with the way the (financial) nature of language translation in WT land has changed over the years.

Previously, to be of any use the material being translated needed to be printed so that it could be useful - and printing used to be fairly expensive with the old style hot plates etc etc.You also had the logistics of distributing the printed materials in relatively small quanities both to Bethels and then to individual congregations - packing up lots of small quantities of even just tracts takes time to do!

    Two key things have changed

    • Firstly, printing itself is relatively cheaper even for short small runs
    • Secondly, and more importantly, it doesn't even need to be printed now!! The website and the smart phone app means that distributing translated material can be extremely cheap to do - and that's really been a game changer for the WT.

So now the biggest cost in translating is the actual translating - so it makes sense to do what WT are doing now...

    • Firstly, buy a RTO - basically a domestic house - which is a resaleable asset
    • Secondly, buying it in the area where the langage is spoken is good for keeping those working their up-to-speed with the language - and can give the WT kudos with local government and NGOs etc
    • Thirdly, having a local office means it's easier to get additional volunters who speak the language to come in on an ad-hoc or temporary basis.

Local temporary local volunters can then do the leg work of initial translations etc while the permanent staff can knock it into shape for a final translation copy that can be proof read by local volunters. The final translated material can then be upoaded and made available to public via the website and app - it doesn't all need to be printed.

There was discussion here recently about the Welsh RTO

    https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/279555/wts-buys-ps1-000-000-luxury-sea-front-property-wales-uk

What's the point in having Welsh translators located in London? Buy a resaleable asset in the local area, get local staff and volunteers, get the translated stuff emailed to Bethel and they just upload to website and app. QED

So how does any of the above apply to the Ft. Lauderdale office in Florida?

    Hi millie210!

So how does any of the above apply to the Ft. Lauderdale office in Florida?

haha - the exception that proves rule?

But seriously, out of all languages, by it's very nature Sign Language is going to be the least geo-centric language.

    But why Florida?

Because it is one area of the USA that has a highest number of hearing disabled people

    Check out:

    http://libguides.gallaudet.edu/content.php?pid=119476&sid=1029190

And, more importantly WT-wise, a high number/density of congregations (publishers) - you can see that quite simply by doing a basic 'state' search for ASL congegations on jw.org.

They have to translate ASL somewhere, they need a bigger and higher spec place for the production of video.

Where in the US would you have expected WT to do ASL translation and video production??
