Doug Mason is engaged in writing a paper on the "Satan"/ "Devil" figure in Scripture, it will be a good read, and lead to further reading for those of us who are interested.

It is also enlightening to read the views of Orthodox Jews on Satan, after all, the Hebrew Bible is in their ownership. Christians can only look over their shoulders.

The "good guys" are only as good as they are by how scary the "bad guys" are.

So Christianity has made "The Devil" to be very scary indeed.

Christianity has given a lot of prominence to Satan. Scholars conclude that the personification of Satan was influenced by Gentile Christians who kept some of their pagan beliefs.

Apparently, Jehovah did not want to give Satan undue prominence

    LOL,

Yet another example of WTS using weasel words telegraphing "We're just making this $#!+ up as we go along".

Apparently, evidently, reasonably, by extension, logically, likely, probably, possibly, undoubtedly, clearly....

Any time you see any of those words in a WT article, you can safely read as the opposite:

"Evidently" = "there is no evidence for this, but..."

"Reasonably" = "no reasonable person would conclude this, but..."

"Likely" = "This is virtually impossible, but..."

"there is no evidence for this, but..."

Realizing that the WTS had virtually no actual evidence that they were right... was one of my many little wake-up moments.

But is still allowing Satan to be an Immensley powerful and invisible force that can influence and harm mankind and who can bring untold miseries and so on...

Ok, I understand God's grand divine plan now.
