Nearest Hall would appear to be Newport... 7 miles. But the roads over there are pretty narrow and it would be no fun on a Winter's night for the MW Meeting.... Still, the grey suits will be pocketing half a mi££ion quid - why worry?

Especially as it's perched atop one of the highest spots in Newport - they don't know how to handle snow. (Although, it's sited now, right next door to my sister! No excuse for not attending in inclement weather)

Yes, it's an old thread but I was there on the quick build and I guess inauguration. Do these quick builds where even children and "have a go henrys" attended and passed bricks along a long line. Do they still go on?

OK found it: https://www.islandvetcare.co.uk/ Scroll on the page that comes up through the main web site pictures (not the gallery) and you will see the main entrance just like the kingdom hall.

@ballistic: having worked on the RBC until I left - no, the quick builds at least in the US are a little more professional, primarily for liability reasons. It’s still volunteers but mostly able bodied men, some of them actually professionals and females/older children may provide food.
Where I was, anyone under 18 cannot do volunteer work that is dangerous (eg be near power tools, scaffolding etc), which quick builds are just a slow moving OSHA violation.
The actual quick builds take several weeks now, they have consistently had problems with “too quick” builds and the local media got bored with them and real contractors pointed out the issues - all sorts of things have to “settle” fastening systems, footers, foundations, glues, concrete, cement, the structure was not inspected at time they wanted to do their inauguration etc. There is a reason construction takes time and having to tear stuff back down because you didn’t do or failed a mechanical inspection is more expensive than doing it right.
So about the time I quit, a “lot” was contracted out to some “good ol boys” that surely didn’t need the extra money from the “JW tax”. Off course WTBTS got their kickbacks too. The congregation still got involved but mostly decorations (roofing, siding, painting) after most of the framing and electrical, plumbing, everything else was roughed in, you know the simple stuff your average handyman can do.

Since the RBC arrangement was replaced by LDCs, things have got more professional at least. But the downside is that the locals are less involved and invested in the construction. Yes, they still take local volunteers, but they have to register first on the JW website (stating what relevant skills they have, etc), and management of it all is taken out of their hands and run by the members of the LDC that are
imposed onassigned to the locality from the Branch to oversee the work. It's a way for the Org to completely centralise what happens, even down to telling the brothers what kind of decor they are allowed to use, what models of AV and IT equipment, etc. I think it's supposed to be the Org's way of "rewarding" local congregations after having
stolenclaimed the deeds of their Halls and most of their monthly contributions, on the promise that "Mother" will take care of their future construction and repair needs. But it's also a clever way of tightening overall control.Looking at the IoW specifically, I see they still have one lone congregation at Freshwater out in the west that's looking vulnerable. Just one cong left in a small bungalow hall? Got to be ripe for selling off too, I would imagine! That would help
settle another lawsuitbuild another couple of African halls, right?
