John...thanks for the suggestion, looks good. I love those kind of movies.

Faye...mommy dearest ;-)...I know right?! Those thoughts plague me sometimes laying in bed, all the 'what ifs' crazy how the universe works.

I mean what if I did get to play football in high school.....but then had broken my neck, and become a quadriplegic. Would I rather be a non-witness paralyzed guy, or a fading / sometimes depressed JW that feels like I missed out on so many aspects of life.....ugh...on and on and on we could go.

    Thanks for playing along :-)

Not that it really makes any difference, but.....

Charles Taze Russell was never a Jehovah's Witness.

Nobody ever died refusing blood transfusions or medical treatment in CT Russell's time.

Families were never torn apart as a result of shunning in CT Russell's time.

Bible students under CT Russell's leadership were free to associate with anyone they wished and to celebrate any "worldly" holidays they chose.

I am not a CT Russell defender or apologist. Russell was just another goofy cult leader with some shady business practices, but his "bible students" were pretty much free to think for themselves with no adverse consequences. Again, I am not aware of anyone dying or being killed following his goofy teachings.

Judge Rutherford is the real culprit here. He commandeered the Watchtower estate and assets after CT passed on, he turned what was left of the "bible students" into Jehovahs Witnesses, he established the "model" for what we now know as Jehovah's Witnesses.

Again, I don't mean to sound like I'm defending Russell, but someone like Rutherford would have found some cult to take over had it not been the Watchtower.

Or Mary and whichever 1st century dude knocked her up . . .

Good points, Apostrate. But CTR started it. You're right, Rutherford made the religion like a police state. I think if russell hadn't started it and made these promises that my mother believed 'I'll never have to die! I will be beautiful forever!!'..., I know I would be better off.

    Agreed Faye,

(By the way, I really like your name that you post under, I didn't get it until recently ((Fadin'Away))

CTR started the WT, but even his ideas were lifted from the Adventist sect that he had been a part of. And they lifted their ideas from MILLER, another end of the world sect.

I grew up in a dysfunctional family. If my mother had not bumped into the JW's and become enamored with the cult, I have a feeling that I would probably be posting on an ex-Mormon or an ex-Moonie site, or of some such ilk.

I guess that I feel, in a way, that I was almost destined to be suckered into some type of cult. I just feel blessed that I was able to get out and recognize the WT for what it really is. I do all I can to help others get out. But, I don't have to tell you how difficult that is!

I had a friend (a JW) who was as close to me as a brother. He will not talk to me anymore. It hurts. I know that you have mentioned that your family is now cut off from you. I understand that pain completely.

The WT took my dysfunctional family and made it worse. I wouldn't have thought that was possible.

No way will I ever defend Russell, Rutherford, the WT, the Adventists, or any of this cockamamie business.

Always good to talk to you Faye!

How juvenile. What are you, 13 years old tresdecu?

    If only............

Charles Taze Russell's Mom and Dad didn't have sex back on that night in June of 1851...

weird that a married couple getting horny could affect so many lives 164 years later.

    just a random Friday thought.

A couple has Sex in 1851............164 years later..

Apostrate thanks for noticing my username :). I think of it more like 'faded, done, and away' since I've already faded. No more pretending from me at all, ever again. whew! i like to be a really authentic person, so fading was soooooo difficult it almost drove me crazy.

Im sorry you had a dysfunctional family. I hope you've been able to surround yourself with healthy relationships now. My parents and brother treat me as almost disassociated, since I barely made it out without being disassociated and they know my position on doctrine and their policies. I hear about family emergencies and not much more. I don't like being the black sheep of the family, I always tried to make everyone happy and be a good girl, but eventually you have to live your own life according to what you want and feel is right. So that is my status, and will stay until the WT gets a heck of a lot more liberal. I'm not holding my breath. Breathing deeply, enjoying the freedom. But yeah, it does hurt to be cut off. I'm very sorry about your close friend. It's not fair that this religion separates people because of personal beliefs. It's not right.

    Mad Irishman

Too bad Hitler's mother and father had intercourse. Yes, it all makes sense now!

Come on. Come up with something a little more intelligent than this.

I guess if you're parents didn't slept together we wouldn't have this banal post to talk about and someone after me wouldn't be angry reading this!
