One thing I’ll say is this, Jehovah’s Witnesses are not political enemies. I may not agree with their beliefs but they pose no true threat to Russia

It is conveniently tendentious of Russian Orthodox Church leaders to speak out against JW organization as an "extremist group" and then insist the banning is not a religious but a political decision. A rat has never smelt so badly.
BTW, I understand that other American-originated religious groups are also banned including Scientologists and Mormons. We don't hear much about them, though.
