Man I hate it when I lose a post due to a server error. Grrrr!

    Pleasuredome,

I have seen many examples of orbs picked up by digital cameras. Any reputable camera technician or photographer will tell you that those orbs are just artifacts that are introduced by the camera itself. Digital cameras are favored by 'ghostbusters' because they are so good at creating artifacts. Artifacts are parts of the picture that are introduced by the circuitry or aberrations in the photocells of the camera. Many artifacts are caused by the unusually long exposure time used on Digital cameras in low-light situations. What is low light to a camera may seem light normal light to a human because our eyes are much more sensitive than normal shapshot digital cameras.

So....if you were to collect all of the ghost stories in the world......you'd have a shitload!

The question has to be asked.......what of the stories where people claim dishes fly out of cupboards,.....voices coming out of things, light being turned on and off, and some even saying things being levitated? Are all these people stretching what they think they imagine? Some stories are pretty explicite.

One story from a dubs studying cousin had all these things happen I mentioned. One story of his and his family of six, claimed ofytentimes there was the sound of a loud party in their front yard and eachn time they would open the door to see.....it would stop. They burned a quja board and it supposedly cussed at them from the fire. What is with these stories???????

    Gumby,

There are a shit load of urban legends that aren't true, either. Most of these stories turn out to be second or third hand (i.e. they get exaggerated after many tellings). There have been many cases of hoaxes as well. When they are not, all you have to do is some investigation work and the story seems to become less interesting. I've looked into so many of things it's silly. I would love for there to be something to it, but I've been disappointed every time I've read about something that seemed like the real thing.

p.s. a lot of time can be wasted trying to verify every story that comes out, so a good rule of thumb is "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". Without good evidence such claims are worthless and can be ignored. The burden of proof is on the one making the claim, not the skeptic. If they cannot prove their claim then there is no use believing it. There have been too many examples of hoaxes and exaggerations to make belief the default state.

    Rem,

Thanks but for the insight........and ALL the rest of your insight. Your always there to help someone look at the other side of the coin and you do a good job at it.

I agree people can imagine much. When we were kids and no one else was around, we can remember thinking some one heard something, then after that, you heard AND SAW all kinds of stuff. Some people are already primed for things to happen such as walking through a graveyard at night and thinking you see and hear things. I would like to see some real stuff myself......but never have.

    rem, what's an orb?

bonus question, how come all the pro photographers I know, and myself, never seem to get anything we find too mysterious on our film, in spite of the fact that we shoot thousands more pics a year than the average photo buff? I thought it was funny, looking at the first pic posted here, and then finding it on the web, two of the more famous pics were taken by men with the title of Reverend. hmmm.

    Six,

Here are some articles with references to orbs and digital cameras. I have done some more research on this stuff, but I can't remember exactly where I found some of the info anymore. Rods and orbs can also be caused by out of focus items in the air, such as moving insects, dust motes, or even raindrops:
