Should Religion Be Exempt From Ethical Standards?

There is very little consensus being advocated here. The Separation of Church and State is intended to avoid having these two institutions of society dictate to the other what it should do. Like it or not ppl have wacky relgious beliefs and these should be tolerated and protected as long as it doesn't unduly prohibit anyone's excercise of their own constitutional rights. That last statement is kinda a double-edged sword, though. I say this because somewhere in this, the person has a responsibiltiy to protect his own rights and liberties. Why would anyone stay invovled in a religion in a free society that treats him or his own like shit? Like it or not some of us, ex-jw's included need to learn how to tell the Society where in the hell to get off at.

    I agree.

But how can children decide to leave?

In regards to that issue, there are already laws on the books, right? Again, the parents( or whowmever is responsible for the child) ought to recognize that if a religion asks them to cover something like this up, something is wrong and they should act accordingly.
