What About C.O.'s?

This is a part of the sociological puzzle that's worth
looking at. What motivates these guys to hang on?

Most C.O.'s I've encountered in the past ten years are
pompous jerks I wouldn't trust with my wallet, wife
or spiritual life. Their wives often develop strange
chronic illnesses that can't be cured - a sign that
their subconscious is telling them to quit, IMHO.
I have a suspicion too, that the Society isn't getting
the calibre of brothers they want to volunteer for this job.

Now, I grant you that ego can be a powerful motivator,
but I can't square that with the emotional drain of
"being on stage" all the time or dealing with the
endless parade of child-like publishers (and elders)
who screw up and have to be "taken to the woodshed".

The scary part is --- it gets you wondering if the
system , by its nature, selects those very men who
shouldn't have anything to do with guiding ANYONE'S
spirituality - smooth, superficial egotists who beat the
    flock.

    Metatron,

Are you going to tell us that all apostates are in good health?

In my many years of association with the organization I have come into contact with many C.O.'s and D.O.'s. I found that most of them were good people. Some were definitely unfit to serve in that capacity but that is true across the entire spectrum of humanity.
These people are as much victims of the system as any publisher in the congregation.
The blame for what is happening in the organization does not rest upon elders, or the 'traveling brothers'.

It gets harder and harder to separate the individuals from the
system. If the system "makes" you act a certain way, do you
then become "that kind of person"? Can you quit? Can you
just let things slide? Could you be a hero and take a stand?

It appears to me that there's a whole range of options here
available to a man led by his conscience - unless perhaps,
you want to introduce the thought that these guys are
mostly 50 ish and scared of getting a real job like the rest
of the proletariat - maybe so.

There's a lot of us here that resigned or da'd ourselves
or otherwise said "no" to the ugly system that the Society
has created - I think they could do the same.

    Hello, Fred.
Metatron: It's not that simple. Living under conditions where most of the light that comes to you has first been filtered makes it difficult for one to get a clear image.

Metatron brought up an interesting point about illnesses of the COs and their wives.

Why are so many of them sick? Many of the COs that came through the congregations I were in, had some kind of food allergy, or some health issue that placed restrictions on what they could and couldn't eat. Which in turn, made it harder for those that wanted to invite these ones for a meal, as most foodstuffs contain some ingredient or chemical that the CO or his wife couldn't eat.

Maybe it is the body's way of telling these ones that they are over-doing things, or maybe some underlying problem that they aren't facing.

It just seems to me there is an over-proportionate number of COs and wives who suffer from these kinds of things, compared to the general population.

    Any other thoughts on this?

Yep, so are most people on this forum, victims of a WTS system controlled by your bestest buddy, Satan

Prisca, I hear you, I was only attending for a short while, and 1 CO and 1 DO were both sick, the CO had a heart attack not long ago, the new CO seems healthy, but im unlikely to hear otherwise now they shun me (and i wasnt even a member)
