GB: Religion is no longer a snare and a racket!

During the Rutherford era, among the many books he wrote there was one titled Religion.

It may have been with this book that Joseph Rutherford started the whole "religion is a snare and a racket" campaign. This campaign was quite successful with many around the world walking with placards such as those shown in the Proclaimers book, pg. 568, attached to their bodies.

The "religion is a snare and a racket" slogan is repeated for some 10 times in the Religion book alone. "Religion is a snare of the Devil and the Devil's associates and is operated as a racket against the people".

Here are just a few samples.

As you can see, especially from page 178, God's wrath is upon "all religion, and particularly the so-called Christian religion". (underline mine)

Well, as time passes, things change! Look at this full-page ad in The New York Times from the Governing Body. Specially look at the block of text just below the title.

Wow, things have really changed! Now, the Society begs the world to be recognized as a "Christian religion".

Since God does not change, we have to conclude that it was the Watchtower Society who changed its mind.

Is the Governing Body, in effect, saying that "Babylon, the Great" isn't that bad, after all? Have we fled prematurely?

The Watchtower Society and JWs are definitely unrecognizable!

The last half century, the WT.has dropped the idea that all religion is bad. They have felt there's only 1 true religion.

"The last half century, the WT.has dropped the idea that all religion is bad. They have felt there's only 1 true religion."

Since Brooklyn harps on the "fact" that "Jehovah never changes" where does that leave them? Dont respond with something about brighter light. "Jehovah never changes," remember?

At the time Rutherford was declaring "religion is a snare and racket", the Bible Students/JW's didn't consider themselves to be a religion. Maybe they were a "bible study group" or a "way of life", whatever. So the word religion took on a pejorative meaning.

But in the later part of the 20th century, the WTS slowly accepted that their movement fell within the standard definition of religion, so that's when they came up with the "true religion vs. false religion" concept.

    Observator,

I and others have already written extensively about this, using the "Religion" book for evidence.

That's why I'm retired on that stuff. Those exposes' are now readily available online.

New perspectives are not discouraged, however.

The only thing "new under the sun" in WatchtowerLand(tm) is when they will shoot themselves in the foot again. They will.

    OMG... so hypocritical of them!!!

They condemn the UN as being "the disgusting thing that causes desolation" and "the scarlet colored wild beast", then demand to be protected under it's laws.

"But Mr.President, the blasphemous wild hore of a beast, I mean United Nations, says that you shouldn't discriminate against people because they are of the beast devil christendom, because of different religious persuasion"

It appears that the French are awake then - to what's really on the mind of jwism.

    VIVA LE FRANCE !

The Achilles Heel of the WTS is charitable status. The French have hit the WTS hard. Its a shame there is no further attempts by others.
