HLC tells hospitals: check everyone's wallet!

    hey blue,

The lady who was taking the info said, "Ma'am, if you're a JW, we need to know so we can notify your elders. They want to be notified whenever a JW registers."

But the elders just want to help you......even if they have to kill you. Don't want no waiverin' jw's in the hospital partaking of blood, now do we? Glad you're still around & kicking!

HEY SCULLY! I had no idea - thank you for that information! As I've said before (sincerely this time) - I ALWAYS learn from your posts! And yes, I've been to our local hospital as a jw. Your point never occurred to me.....hospitals keep records?

I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. Hospitals will keep records on file from previous admissions. If a patient has previously noted to the hospital staff that they are JW, that will come up on the screen. That is why it is so important to keep your medical and hospital information up-to-date - scully

    Hi waiting!!

Your point never occurred to me.....hospitals keep records?

You bet they do!! Especially now that hospitals are using computerized documentation systems, the record-keeping capacity has increased exponentially! At the hospital where I work, I can look up a patient's admission history - dates of previous hospital stays - and I can even call up blood test and x-ray results from prior admissions, to compare with the patient's current status.

Now for most people, religious affiliation isn't a big deal. Hospitals keep these records to help the staff anticipate particular cultural needs of the patients. For example, if someone is listed as Jewish, we could order Kosher meals for them if they needed it; or if they were going to be discharged on a Saturday (Sabbath) we might anticipate that if they were Conservative or Orthodox Jews, they would not be allowed to drive until after sundown, so their discharge would have to wait. With Muslim patients, they will not eat any pork, so the meals are planned around that preference. Some also require a blanket so they can say their prayers. Some Catholics won't eat meat on Friday, or will want the priest to come and perform Mass with them, so we need to arrange that too. But with JWs the only issue for them is that historically they do not accept blood transfusions, and now that the hospital has a directive from the WTS to contact the HLC if someone believed to be JW shows up without documentation (suspiciously apostate, to the HLC) they want to be notified for the sole purpose of finding out if the person is going to take blood or not. If you've accepted blood, they will announce that you DAd. Sneaky b@$t@rd$, aren't they??

    Love, Scully

Thanks Ozzie, I'm looking forward to reading your posts on it. It's always useful to know what strategy the WT instructs its operatives to use, especially from non-public WT books.

This info. could be very useful, particularly for those of us with families in the Borg who may not respect our wishes on medical treatment and may try to force medical people to follow JW directives should we be unconcious. Knowing what the HLC's may try and pull can help combat them in advance.

Well when hubby was in the hospital..they NEVER checked the records. We had them put a file in his folder with the Medical Directive in it. They never looked.(TheDrs.). One got so upset when we told him that he threw the folder down and walked out of the waiting room...Each time a Dr came in we had to be sure to tell them!.

We gave a copy to the Emergency room Dr..all other Drs. and the hospital itself. Very few Drs took the time to look.

And when my dad was in the hospital..(Heart).he had a bad hip from a botched hip replacement operation...we instructed them to not lay him on that side..you guessed it. They got confused and layed him on that side evertime! Like they couldn't look for the scar!

And they wondered why he screamed when they put him on that side!..Idiots..I guess they needed a diagram!

    Snoozy......

I have a question on this: Isn't going through a person's wallet something that hospitals normally do anyway, in order to ascertain a person's identity or any other important information?

  • ozziepost

    Rocketman,

That wasn't the point: the HLC package demands that all patients' wallets be searched to ascertain whether they are JWs and then they are to call the HLC.

    Cheers, Ozzie

Thanks Ozzie and Scully for bringing this info to our attention.

I have already talked to my doctor about my new beliefs on blood transfusion so its in his records but I didn't think about the computerized records at the hospitals I've been to. I'll have to get right on that job now that I know that the HLC is to be called regardless even if I no longer carry that card.

    G'day Had Enough,

The doctors in ER here in NSW may not be so compliant. Information I've received confirms this. I'll be posting more later. Got to get some shut-eye. Gr8 to see you post. I owe you an email BTW.

Warm regards from Mrs Ozzie and I,

    Ozzie
