Island, it is self evident that reprints of old publications with outdated interpretations of prophecy should be noted and all the more so if the publications have a copyright dated after the prophecy was reinterpreted. The WTBTS is at fault here and we need to ask why ?

The brochure in question has a publishing date of 1993, this is before the change in understanding not after.

Focus importunes in his post that this "article" may be something more than what it really is. In reality it is just a reprint of an old brochure. He insinuates that this "article" may signal a going back and forth in the understanding of the "generation" teaching.

    I dislike disinformation.

The Watchtower since over 100 years is telling people that the end is close. They are the ones who said the end would be in this generation.(1914 generation). They redefined the word generation to fit their new time table, so now the end could be in 100 years, and they will say that they were right when the end comes. They should stop publishing books and magazines until at least one prophesy they made comes true.

Island, this is at the bottom of Donkey's post above. Perhaps I am wrong here but it seems to support the confusion that the ideas presented are current. While I appreciate the harm that can be done by misinformation, I can also understand why some on this board are suspicious of every "jot and tittle" that comes from the WTBTS. The WTBTS mistakes deceit and cunning for Godly wisdom and it would not hold back from hurting you if you presented yourself to them as honest as you are. With them it is better to err on the side of caution. As a publishing company , or a religious organization ;They cannot be trusted. Everything they do is suspect now.

    Siddhashunyata:

    Perhaps I am wrong here

No, no - you are not at all wrong, Siddhashunyata! You have grasped exactly what IslandWoman, a notorious apologist troll (whose congregational experience somehow contradicts that of virtually every other jW/ex-jW poster on the DB) for the disgusting Watchtower abomination, with typical "thoroughness" and/or "HONESTY" and/or "intelligence" conveniently "missed". The Watchtower substantially reformatted the article, popped a "2001" date on it and have it on their website - free of any disclaimers that there had been New Light on the matter. 2001 is - as I said - SIX years after the official dropping of the policy in the Watchtower magazine.

So, why does the filthy whore do this?

Easy. To ensnare more recruits to their hideous cult of shunning and mind control! They are aware that they MAXIMIZE THE BAPTISM RATE IF ARMAGEDDON IS PRESENTED AS "ABSOLUTELY IMMINENT". Just look at the recruitment statistics for the years prior to 1975, once the 1975 teaching was first made seven years earlier!

And saying that Armageddon must come before the "generation of 1914" dies away, and even taking the most beneficial non-ludicrous definition thereof, places a latest possible date for Armageddon at about 2030 ("according to Jesus" and current records for longevity) and probably much earlier.

Why "probably much earlier"? You see, no one but the father knows the exact time, right (Mark 13:32 et seq.)? And if it had not come by, say 2029, then one would know it was to be in 2030, which would contradict the scripture as it would, by elimination, have permitted pinpointing. (The Watchtower will fall over itself to repudiate its earlier and utterly idiotic teaching that that scripture should be interpreted as meaning a specific day or time, rather than a longer period of time - context clearly shows that the Bible was referring to being unable to predict such a time at all accurately). Think about it. Do not underestimate Watchtower cunning and deceit.

But they learned from 1975 that they have also to be more circumspect (not that they lost anything like as many as they gained - they did not: people hate admitting they were conned, and will con themselves into believing they were not). So by this cheating (having the old magazine say one thing and the current website say another - with the website what many will encounter first) they can better promulgate their finely-tuned Perpetual Har-Magedon-Round-the-Cornerism doctrine (as I explained it to AlanF).

Of course the Watchtower needs to send out Unclean Creatures into the world to "explain" away, when caught in their deception, the very apparent contradiction between what they say out each side of their shameful mouth. Which question of such creatures, whose line here must be "We are changing and improving and refining our teaching! We make small errors! We never said we did not! Do not expect Rome to be built in a day! Still does not mean we do not have 'the truth!'", naturally brings me to the matter of what that IslandWoman wrote:

They simply reprinted the brochure there

No, the Watchtower did not. They reformatted it substantially. How can that be a "reprint"? Are you blind? Did you not see my last post above, which listed a handful of the many formatting changes on this page alone, giving some pictures too?

If they did this, it is clearly not being presented for historical reasons. So why is this "false" teaching there, eh? Without any disclaimer? Eh?

What matter that hopes of hundreds of thousands, millions perhaps, are so toyed with? EHH?

By supporting and apologizing for the liar, fraud and proven false prophet, knowing its falsity, you become part of it. And at 1 John 4:1-3 the Bible says: 'Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.' And so you are identified, IslandWoman!

    WHACK!!

    Focus,

Are you a false prophet? Are you trying to mislead this poor ass over here?

Of course people who know better don't expect anything better from Island Woman than a bunch of silly accusations. I don't expect you will any apology from her.

But then what does a donkey know?

    Focus,

The entire text of the brochure in this discussion is reprinted on the Watchtower site, even the text on the back cover of the brochure is there. The only thing missing is the questions at the bottom of the pages and the only thing "reformatted" are the pictures with some black and white pictures changed to color and some pictures which were arranged together in the brochure are, on the site, shown separated. That is all! Every word of the 1993 brochure is there. Nothing is added nothing is removed.

With regard to the copyright date at the bottom of the site page it must be due to either when the brochure was put on the site or when the changes in the pictures were made. For example this Awake is featured on the site:

Note at the bottom of the page it says this Awake was first published in 1999 yet the Copyright is 2002.

Also in the Publications Available section of the Watchtower site the brochure "What Does God Require of Us?" is there to be read. That brochure was printed in 1996 yet the Copyright at the bottom of its pages is 2000 on the site. The copyright dates on their site are for the site and are not supposed to mean that the copyright date of the publication itself has been changed.

The Watchtower always uses its older literature surely you must know this. The congregations are regularly instucted to purge themselves of the old literature by placing it in the field.

The brochure "What Is The Purpose Of Life?" was published in 1993 the entire text has merely been reprinted on their site. The fact that they did not change some "old light" in the brochure does not indicate some sinister plot to fool people. It just means they did not feel it necessary or it has been overlooked. For all their "organized" appearance not all heads communicate with each other over there. Someone was apparently assigned to change the appearance of the pictures he was not assigned to read and correct the text.

Imo, you exaggerated this thing to the point where it was misleading to many here. I don't care whose name is attached to a post, their post is still subject to possible error and subjective opinion. The Watchtower taught us well!!

EXCELLENT POINT i had hope island woman would have caught that very important point-

it shows a couple of things -

    1. how poorly they review what will be put on the world stage via the internet and it doesn;t even comply with current dogmas

    2. they know that the avg person as well as jw don't know the history in TIME LINE FASHION

as you noted before this was put on the net the least they could have done was noted it with a footnote

    * recently jah has revealed to us that we got the definition of generation wrong, the new and improved understanding can be found in the 1995 wt

and that drives the point home even further- they are not directed as claimed by god- they like any other book publisher are not directed by god-

while i agree completely that there is no ploy the point is when you change dogma so much and so often your members can't keep up with what is current new light

in all honesty wt should have never used this publication on the web since it teaches such a major dogma that is no longer even reconized- out of the billions of publications they print they end up selecting one that contridicts what they currently teach

and you are correct the various dept don't communicate to each other the Wrting dept under the leadership of certain GB and the Service Dept have been known many times to publish 2 opposite positions on matters, once again confirming there ain't much holy spirit directing things as claimed

This whole 1914 generation is such obvious nonsense on its own not to mention the other silliness behind the whole deal. If the "End" doesn't come within the life time of the leadership (or those responsible adults) of the period who would be in their 40's and 50's during this time then the whole concept is meaningless. The very latest that this generation could have gone on would have been the mid 1930s. That "Generation" died many years ago even if they lived to be 130 years old so how could it still possibly apply to us today in 2003 and beyond. This is pure insanity

great points and then to turn around and don't ck to see if the publicaiton selected for the distribution on the WWW is current and up to date is truly sad-

i know so many long time jw who still think that they teach separating of the sheep and goat, that the generation is the 1914 group and many other things

wt changes is dogmas so much and so quietly many times that many jw dont get it till some Society man says DID YOU CATCH THAT NEW POINT-

and the new point many times has major life impact on them and they didn't even know it

as i tell my wife - when the wt wants you to know something or that they are changing something

the shout it out from the top of the house, km, wt articles, letters to congo, letters to elder, , in talks, at conventions, district, tapes , the books etc

don't all jw know they have to be at ALL THE MEETINGS N OUT IN SERVICE and why --cause it is beaten into thier brains over and over-

yet why are so many jw walking around thinking that the generation dogma is still in effect- it was mentioned in ONE AND I SAY ONE ARTICLE AND THAT WAS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SUCH A MAJOR SHIFT in dogma only mentioned ONE time there was no followup at the conventions

"Brothers are we not glad that we have been told that we may not now see the new system before we die"

instead the only comment have been:

shamelessly blaming it on the rank and file "Jehovah's people":
"Eager to see the end of this evil system, Jehovah's people have at times speculated about the time when the 'great tribulation' would break out, even tying this to calculations of what is the lifetime of a generation since 1914. However, we bring a heart of wisdom in,' not by speculating about how many years or days makeup a generation,
and this is the real reason why the posting of that publication is such a joke-
