The Vikings made enslaved residents of coastal towns wear a lenght of rope around their neck to remind of the dismissal procedure in case of opposition.

In view of the milististic/pagan connections as well as links to slavery practised by professed members of Christendom, should JWs wear ties?

    tie
A torturous device worn around the necks of men and little boys, designed to cut off circulation to the brain, and therefore increase the need to depend on Jehovah's spirit to help them think and speak articulately. Some hackers call it a brain depletion device. Standard meeting and service dress for Witness males, and also Mormon elders. Something with which the person who invented it should be hanged. [196] Sometimes useful for wiping off glasses and dipping in soup at formal dinner parties. One of the first things that will be discarded in God's new world, as soon as the need for glasses disappears. (Lynn 1:2)
[196] The article ``Who Invented the Necktie?'' in [g96 5/8] points out that the tie has military origins. Hmmm, all the more reason for suspicion!

WTS Quotes About Ties, White Shirts, and Rules

    *** g97 2/8 30 From Our Readers ***

Neckties Thank you so much for the article "Who Invented the Necktie?" (May 8, 1996) As a minister of Jehovahs Witnesses, I have worn a necktie in 90-degree [30C]-plus heat while engaging in the door-to-door preaching work. I have often theorized that the necktie must have been invented by some cruel 13th-century inquisitor who in order to wring a confession from a heretic threatened him with either the rack, thumbscrews, being boiled in oil, or wearing a necktie on a summer afternoon.

    Some

may feel that wearing a tieis torture in any weather. Commendably, though, in cultures where a necktie is considered proper attire, Jehovahs Witnesses generally put up with the inconvenience of wearing a tie while engaging in the ministry and while attending Christian meetings.ED.

True, the Christian congregation is authorized to have guidelines that contribute to the smooth operation of Jehovahs earthly organization. (Hebrews 13:17) But some have distorted these guidelines or have added their own rules. In one area all students in the Theocratic Ministry School had to wear suits and button up their jackets when delivering a talk. A student who failed to do so would be disqualified from giving future talks. Rather than make such hard-and-fast rules, would it not be more reasonable and in harmony with the spirit of Gods Word to give kindly, personal guidance as needed?James 3:17.

Proper attire and grooming. Extremes in attire should be avoided. The Christian minister will not follow the fads of the world that draw attention to oneself. He will avoid being overdressed, or dressing in too flashy a manner so that attention is directed to the clothing. Also, he will exercise care so as not to be dressed in a slovenly way. Being well dressed does not require that one wear a new suit, but one can always be neat and clean. Trousers should be pressed and the necktie worn straight. These are things that anyone can do.

you are one of Jehovahs Witnesses, you will also want to consider your need for suitable clothes to wear to Christian meetings, inasmuch as casual clothing is inappropriate for worship. In lands where Western-style garb is worn, young men usually wear dress slacks, a dress shirt, a tie, and a jacket. Young women usually wear a dress or a skirt and blouse. Similar apparel is also worn in the door-to-door preaching work.

Youths among Jehovahs Witnesses give particular thought to what they wear at Christian meetings and in their public preaching work. For example, jeans and sneakers, which may serve quite well at school, are out of place during formal worship; they detract from ones claim to being a minister of God.Compare 2 Corinthians 6:3.

A traveling overseer in Germany described some local Christians as "the tennis-shoe generation" because of their overly casual attire at meetings. The branch office added that some meeting attenders "border on being sloppy," though "the vast majority of our brothers dress modestly."

Millie, one of Jehovahs Witnesses, attended a school where violence was prevalent. Dressing as if headed for a Christian meeting would have made her overly conspicuous. So she wore a modest pair of jeans during school hours, as that was accepted at her school. But since she engaged in Bible educational work after classes, she took along a dress. Change of role, change of attire.

At first, when the Witnesses went calling from house to house dressed up and wearing neckties, they were mistaken for Mormons, and many would not open the door. When they switched to wearing more casual attire, they were welcomed in, often for an hour or more. Now the people recognize Jehovahs Witnesses, even though business attire is once again used in the ministry.

Now their two small sons love to accompany their mother to the Kingdom Hall. They even asked their father for neckties, since they saw all the brothers who gave talks wearing them. Today this woman is a baptized sister.

As for proper dress on the part of the brothers when giving talks in the school or on the service meeting, it might be said that they should be attired in the same general way as the brother who delivers a public talk. If it is customary in your locality for those who deliver the public talks to wear a necktie and suit coat, then that is also proper attire when giving talks in the Theocratic Ministry School, since you are being trained for public speaking.

We can illustrate this in the matter of dress. The Bible requirementGods requirementis that a Christians clothing must be neat and clean, well-arranged and not betraying a lack of "modesty and soundness of mind." (1 Timothy 2:9; 3:2) Obviously, then, the elders in one congregation went "beyond the things that are written" a few years ago by requiring every public speaker in their congregation to wear a white shirt, even though pastel colors were generally acceptable in that country. Guest speakers who showed up with a colored shirt were asked to change into one of several white shirts kept in the Kingdom Hall for just such emergencies. How careful we have to be in order not to impose our personal taste on others! And how appropriate Pauls counsel: "Let your reasonableness become known to all men"!Philippians 4:5.

Our host has invited us to join him at a Bible study in the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses. At this house of worship we meet many friendly people. The women are dressed in long colorful saris and are as graceful as princesses. Despite the heat, the men wear a white shirt, tie and trousers.

I don't know if this is in all the "paradise" drawings or pictures put out by the society, but I came to notice that most of the men in those false futuristic drawings have NO ties on!

How come the men get to wear no ties but the poor women have to still wear dresses??? Most of the women and girls in these pictures are wearing dresses or skirts while they are doing gardening, cutting flowers, playing with the bears, romping in the woods, etc......... Well, when I enter into the new system I will protest and WEAR PANTS!!!!!!! Besides, I don't think dresses are appropriate apparel for cleaning up all the dead bodies left over from armageddon!

Heels!!!!!!! I remember when I first starting going out on service, I would get all decked out and wear shoes with heels!!!!! What a dork! After a while, I realized that none of the women wore heels, they all wore flat shoes. So many GOODmemories!

You can betcha that the old guys up there in brooklyn think that the "Father Knows Best" era will carry over into the "paradise earth." This is evident in their pictures. Some paradise. I have always thought that the WTBS could never get out of the 50's mentality. You know, dresses for women, men with ties, women home all day cleaning for the man to come home to a sterile house and perfect children, etc.... How could they know that the world has changed up their in their ivory watchtower, still living in a time past! They need to have a wake up call.

Now, Sentinel, that would be a picture to put in the WT. Actually, I have been reading Rutherford's books and the pictures in there are quite racy for now let alone then. I wish I had a scanner.
