Do You Forget to Reference JWD in Emails?

I don't know about you, but I get a fair amount of emails. Unless I recognize the name or email address, or unless there is a reference to JWD (at least until I learn to recognize the sender) I delete them.

There are just too many viruses out in la la land, and although I did "take a chance" in the past and open a couple, if it has an attachment, I won't open it.

Here are just a few that I have not opened:

JKC486 etc.; christopherglennn etc.; btlink etc.; bigdog1 etc.

Do any of these look familiar to you? The first one had an attachment, but the other three didn't.

If I don't know who sent an email, especially if there is an attachment, I don't do anything but delete it. On my desktop computer which has a more sophisticated version of Norton Anti-Virus, questionalbe emails are quarantined and even I can't open them without a lot of trouble. Usually I just delete 'em anyway.

I noticed the same thing with mine..I can't open them sometimes if they have attachments. I thought it was just me!

Francois, I love Norton. In the year since I got it, I have received nearly a hundred virus's, mostly from the veterans site I belong too. Some people seem to not believe in a good anti-virus program and inadvertantly get hooked and pass them on. But, not one of them has ever gotten through.

My email for the board is hotmail, which seems to have a pretty good anti-virus program in it as well.

Regardless, I will not open any email from anyone I don't recognize if there is an attachment to it.

    Karen,

I know who the second email person is. I've chatted with him a number of times. He's ok.

    Hi Karen,

I don't recognize any of those names. I do the same thing as you with regard to opening e-mails. There are just too many questionable topics > Everyone wants me to re-finance my mortgage or they think I'm in terrible debt or I need a bigger penis or whatever........... Since I'm a female I have no need for the last offer but they just keep offering it to me.

I must delete 15-25 e-mails per day w/o ever opening them. I have to recognize the name or something in the subject line too. They are sort of like annoying telemarketers. Love, Dj

p.s. yup, Norton is my friend too

    Hi Karen

I always try to remember to identify myself and the board in my subject heading. I seldom get e-mails from people I don't know, but with all the virus crap going around, it's a good reminder to at least mention JWD in the subject heading.

Thanks for all the replies. And, Prisca, I will go back and open #2, since you gave the okay. I hate to miss good messages from JWD friends, but unless I can recognize it, away they go.

    Heres what I do,

In the subject box I put...From Gumby @ JW- discussion.

I also have probably deleted some ones mail, thinking it was junk mail or something with a virus.

Attachments don't execute if you simply open the mail and not the attachment itself. There are exploits and worms etc that operate when you simply open the mail but norton should takes care of these. I spend most of my time warning people about viruses but I feel there is the other extreme.
